When I bought my 535i, for 300 bucks, the owner threw in a set of Kelleners Sport 17 in wheels that were on his 98 528i. (The engine was blown so I rebuilt a used engine with all sorts of perf.mods.) The offset it ET15 and damn are they wide. Not sure on the exact measurement. Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone out there has put 17's on a 535i and what tire size they used. I was thinking of a 205/50/17. Any ideas and input is very appreciated. By the way, I will have to get way longer wheel studs to mount them on the car.

Yes, many folks are running 17" wheels. I suggest you see The E28 Wheel & Tire Tutorial to see the variety of what's been successfully used.

I can tell you, though, that:

1) You will need centering rings, as the E39 has a larger hub bore size than the E28.

2) 205/50-17 is way too small.

3) #1 and #2 are moot points, as these wheels are probably 8" wide or greater and thus when combined with the 15mm offset, they will not fit an E28.
