Redline Water Wetter OK
I have been reading that some people were not using water wetter because they thought it contained silicates. I called Redline today and we can put that ugly rumor behind us, it has no silicates or other additives that will hurt our cars. I also talked with them about transmission oils and they have three types, MTL, D4, and MT 90. Those with noise problems may be using the wrong Redline product.

I don't know why you would need to run water wetter on a street car anyway. If you're having overheating problems, you definitely have something wrong with the cooling system and don't need to put another chemical in the coolant to try to remedy the situation.
They're right about their transmission products. Some people run MTL while others run ATF in their transmission. I can't remember which transmissions run which fluid, but I think it has something to do with whether or not you have a green sticker on your bellhousing. The archives on the old board will surely pull up the answer.
EDIT: I was right. Just found the answer that Rich Euro M5 posted on March 29, 2004.

lubricant should be used in the various '83 -'92 BMW manual transmissions.
Those with the Getrag 280 used in the M cars should be running MT-90. Most everyone else should run with MTL unless the trans has a Red colored label on the right side, then you should be running D4ATF. This info is direct from Redline, below is their latest response.

Rich,
Does your transmission have the green label and external hex drain
and fill plugs.
The fluid called for in these transmissions is determined by the label.
The label should be affixed to the passenger side bell housing.
In '83 to '92 BMW's with Green Label - MT-90
Red Label - D4ATF
No Label - MTL
Green or Red label Units with D4ATF or MT-90 use 17mm external hex
drain and fill plugs.
No Label Units with MTL use 17mm internal hex drain and fill plugs.
