Here is a link to my craigslist ad. Although the ad has a good bit of info, I'm sure any interested parties will have more questions for me.

Feel free to contact me at 214.554.2116. Thanks for looking!

Best Regards,

You are an evil man Emory, selling that car here in town when I only have $2k to spend.

Now I have to get into an argument with my wife just to convince me that we can't get that much for Courtney. Heck she's our last chance at making something off these kids before she moves out.

If the "Kidneys for Cossacks" deal falls through, I would be glad to have a look for anyone else that is interested.

I've decided I really want a 318ti anyway.

1988 BMW 535IS- NICEST IN AREA - $6000 (ARLINGTON HEIGHTS)

Although its not perfect, this is easily the nicest e28 I have personally seen, which is why me and my family traveled to Tacoma Washington to purchase it and drive it home over 2000 miles in which it performed flawlessly. Here is the original listing that details many of the modifications and maintenance that had been performed on the car prior to my purchasing it:

http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=81191

I bought the car with 186k miles, it now has 217k.

In addition the maintenance and repair history from the previous owners, I have, in my ownership:

1. changed oil and filters at 5k increments
2. replaced alternator
3. replaced hood with brand new oem panel
4. replaced windshield
5. installed freshly restored and refinished BBS style 5 wheels with polished lip and silver painted centers. These are perfect with no curb rash.
6. new hankook ventus v12's
7. recently had valves adjusted
8. replaced matte black kidney grill with oem chrome version (still have the matte black one)

Exterior condition:

The paint gleams beautifully compared to when I bought it. There is no rust. It does have the normal dings and such for a nearing 25yr old car with the exception of the hood, which is brand new. New windshield is still perfect. It did get some light hail damage on the roof and trunk lid last year. Nothing serious. Overall its a good 5 footer and gets compliments daily.

Interior:

Driver seat needs some help. The previous owner was a very large guy and did not do the seat any favors. I have been quoted $150 to re-weld the seat frame to correct spec. The passenger seat is in great shape with the leather having no rips or tears. back seat is in great shape, no rips or tears. Looks almost brand new. The carpets are in great shape, no stains or holes worn through. I never got around to replacing the knee panel underneath the steering wheel. The dash is in great shape as well, it only has one crack that is about 1.5in long. The headliner is dyed black and looks great.

Mechanical:

If I were to keep the car, the following items would need to be handled in the within the next 5000 miles or less:

1. brake pads
2. belts
3. brake bomb
4. another oil change

The ONLY reason I am getting rid of this car is because it does not have A/C. It is not broken, it had been completely removed by the previous owner, who, living in tacoma washington did not really need it and was planning on turning it to a race car so it saved him weight. I had planned on re-installing a system but the money I had allocated for it got spent elsewhere because of un-expected difficulties. I now HAVE to have a car with A/C and need to sell this car to make it happen. It is a wonderful car and nicer than anything that came up for sale local in Texas when I first started looking for an e28. Ideally, I would like to see someone buy it who will take care of this car and respect it. Please contact me if you are serious and would like to view it or if you have any questions.

-Emery

Thanks for the kind words. I would love to sell it to someone local if possible. I'm also open to offers on the car. I feel like its a fair asking price given the condition of it compared to other cars I see come up listed for not much less money. I'm not desperate to sell it, but it does need to go relatively soon unfortunately. I'm all ears if anyone has a suggestion. Thanks again!

What size of tires are you running on those style 5's?

They are 225/17/45's all the way around. I could not fit a wider tire on the rear with our rolling the fenders. Its currently a close fit but they dont rub.

No worries, It has ground control coil over's. For anyone else looking, I guess I was lazy in posting the original 'for sale' link just to save some typing. The car has a lot of desirable upgrades!

for those who have not looked at the craigslist ad, here is the original for sale listing detailing the majority of maintenance and upgrades done to the car prior to my purchasing it.

If you were going to ask me if I'd trade mine for your M5, the answer is yes ;)

But seriously, I need to move this car real soon. I'm open to offers and I might give a bit more consideration to a local who would be a good steward...

If it sells locally, or semi-locally, it'd fit in perfectly at TexFest. ;)

The Ground Control coilovers.....Can I get some comments (from anyone) on how stiff this is likely to be? I'm looking for a DD, I don't need a track car. For context, my current DD is an e36 with H&R Sports and that's fine, but H&R Race springs would be too stiff.

What is a brake bomb? Is that just a fluid flush?

It depends on how stiff the springs are and how well the kit was setup. At that height, it's going to be much stiffer than an E36 on standard H&R springs, otherwise I don't think it would be drivable without smacking the oil pan.

I had my 535 setup with Ground Control coilovers using 440 lb/in fronts and 400 lb/in rears. It was great on the track and fine on the street, but we have good roads here. No way I could handle driving in San Diego or much of California for that matter on a regular basis. If you buy a kit from Ground Control, they ask what you plan to do with it. Others who purchased from them received 440 front and 325 rear, which really isn't optimal since the E28 needs more spring in the rear than the front - which is why the Dinan suspension works so well.

That said, if you're concerned about the stiffness of the suspension, I'd be willing to make you a trade for a setup with Dinan springs, matching shocks and the Ground Control spec-E30 plates. It would include everything to bolt on, etc. Car won't sit as low, but it's a great suspension to drive quickly. I'd also throw in a bit of cash to offset, too.

Just an option. This looks like a great car. Glad I'm not in the market.

GLWTS
I have a 535i too (M30b35). Rare cars take the right buyer. I have a VW TDi that I rebuilt the motor on less than 5K ago. People call offering kbb price. I just laugh.

So there is hail damage to most of the car? Except the hood of course. Does It have any rust underneath? Any info on when the clutch was replaced?

Brian, quit bothering the seller. You are welcome to inspect my new car when it gets to town in a couple weeks. Oh how the envy will churn your guts.
