Lots of double posts lately

Post by mooseheadm5 »

Anyone know the reason for it? I've just been deleting duplicates, but it had happened quite a lot in the past few weeks.

I know that the time from clicking submit to the time where the "post was submitted successfully" has been quite long lately. Perhaps people are impatient.

The "flood interval", which is the number of seconds a person must wait between postings, is currently set to 30 seconds.

I'm not sure what people are doing to succeed in double posting. Even if people are getting impatient with the confirmation, the flood filter should prevent it from actually double-posting. I'd set the flood interval longer, but that usually annoys people because they can't ninja-edit their posts quite so easily after throwing them into a thread.

I remember setting it to a shorter time a while back (like 15-20 seconds), so maybe Justin bumped it back up recently without saying anything.

I don't think people are necessarily double-posting. I remember several years ago (it may not have been on MyE28) I had this problem. I would post once and it would sometimes show up twice, with a timestamp separated by a random but small number of minutes.

I worked really hard on that double post. I had to wait a whole 30 seconds to make it. :(.

It just happened to me and it's because I used the back button after reading what I posted. Which may have taken enough time to escape the 30 sec flood interval. Maybe people are using the back button to get back to the forums causing this?

It happened to me a few times when we were having site issues. Even when I got an error message when submitting a post, it would still get posted to the forum. I had assumed it had not, so I reposted. It usually took longer than 30 seconds to push "back", copy and paste, and resubmit the post.
