I saw mention of this car on Blunttech's Facebook page & thought it was one non-affiliated car that deserved its own thread.

The ad refers to "one other e28 M535i in Minnesota," and I'm pretty sure I know who that one belongs to, ( hi Stuart!) but this one is a mystery to me. Is the owner a member here?

1986 BMW M535i euro spec E28 RARE - $9700 (Richfield)

Hello. For sale is my 1986 BMW euro M535i. Very rare car and difficult to find as this model was not offered for sale in the U.S. market. There is only one other E28 M535i in Minnesota that I'm aware of. I am the third owner and have owned for 8 years. Purchased from a gentleman in Cleveland, who knew and purchased from original owner. Here are the details:

- Diamond black (more of a very dark gray color) over black leather
- Car has 153,400 actual miles. I purchased with 104,000.
- Inline 6 cylinder M30 motor. DC51 production code. Last seven digits of VIN are 1265261.
- Stored winters
- NO RUST
- Staggered genuine Alpina wheels with fresh Michelin Pilots (less than 10k miles on them).
- Fresh brakes front & rear, done at the end of last season.
- Entire cooling system gone through/replaced during my ownership.
- UUC short shift kit
- New lower control arms
- Recent valve adjustment

As to be expected with a 27 year-old, unrestored car there are minor issues:

- Cruise control not functioning. Worked fine up until this year, have not had time to look into.
- A/C is not functioning, not sure of problem, has never really bothered me as I only drive on nice days.
- Oil temp gauge does not work.
- #14 fuse has occasionally been blowing. I thought this was due to a bad auxiliary cooling fan which I had replaced, but the fuse has blown once since replacing. Have not had time to address further.
- There is a very slow leak, I believe a tranny seal of some sort. Was told it's an easy fix and that it's not worth doing until clutch needs to be replaced. Clutch has been replaced at least once. Still plenty of clutch life left.
- Trunk does not lock

Folder full of documentation/records available. Clean title. Original air intake and other misc parts will come with the car, along with original BMW service manual, electrical and Haynes manual. I don't think you will find a nicer example of an extremely rare, unrestored e28 for sale. The interior is beautiful with only a few scuffs in the leather here & there, no rips. No cracks in the dash. While I would not characterize the car as fast by today's standards, it has plenty of power and is a pleasure to drive. Cruises at 85 mph effortlessly. I'd gladly drive it across the country tomorrow.

$9,700 firm. I realize value can be subjective with these rare cars, but based on the prices I've seen for some comparable E28's on http://bringatrailer.com/ I feel the price is quite reasonable. Feel free to visit their site and search 'BMW E28' to see some examples.

Serious buyers only please, and sorry but no trades. Respond with your name and phone # and I will gladly respond and answer questions as quickly as I can. Here is a link to more pics:

Car can be arranged to be seen on evenings & weekends. Thanks for looking.

Yes, this is the "other" M535i in the Twin Cities that stuartinmn has mentioned in the past:

http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?p=1192079#1192079

The super rare window shades that come on the car (*if* they're included in the sale) might be worth the price of admission alone ;)

Looks like this is a DC51 or "green" (catalyzed) motor example per the last seven digits of the VIN.

Edit: seller also mentions it in the ad. Duh.

Ahhh! There he is! http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?p=294260

Makes sense that his username here would match that on his Photobucket account.

Sure wish I was in a position to purchase this fine machine. :?

Me too! What a mighty fine looking example. I love the black on black. And DS is the best black, of course.

Wow, sure looks like a good deal. Most problems would be expected and certainly none that would be deal breakers. I can't see this one lasting much more than a few days for someone to get the funds and meet you!! Which, btw would be me if I didn't have my current car.

very nice

This one is worth the asking price. Even with a few problems, it is so hard to find them in this condition.

Thank you davintosh and all the others for your very kind comments. I'm very bummed to part with my e28, but I know the new owner will enjoy it and hopefully drive it more than I've been able to the past few years.

I'm sorry I haven't been a regular on the board the past few years. Marriage and baby can do that. I'll always be a lurker and hope to have another e28 again some day. I have a '74 2002tii that has plenty to work to keep me busy in the meantime.

A couple local guys coming by tonight to see it, so I'll keep you posted. Thanks again!

Oh, @drew in ny, yes, the window shades are included. :D

Good luck with the sale, but sorry to see you leave the fold. :)

This is a very nice car, and worth the price in my opinion. The side window shades are built right into the door panels, they're pretty cool. If it sells make sure to point the new owner here (as well as to the local Bimmerboard group that meets on first Tuesdays over by Lake Calhoun.)

edit: Where did you take those photos, over by St. Anthony Main? It's a nice backdrop.

Thanks Stuart. I didn't know you guys were still meeting by Lake Calhoun. As I mentioned I've been a bit out of the loop. Maybe I can swing down there in Oct and say hello.

Took the photos you see on CL at the old Grain Belt brewery in NE, just off Marshall & Broadway. Some of the other pics in the link were taken at my office building, which is an old rehabbed bank just off Central & Broadway, on Tyler St.

Hope your 5'er is running well. I haven't seen it around town lately.

SOLD

Congrats on the sale! One of these days the stars will be aligned and the time will be right, but for now I'll just be happy for somebody else. :|

Congrats! Do point the new owner here. Would love to see around the boards or at a meet in the future. That car is a beauty and how neat to have the window shades! Some of the options on these bimmers were way ahead of there time...

Will do. The new owner is a true enthusiast and I'm sure will make an intro at some point. He owns a euro e24 and a couple others I believe.

Just a quick post to say hello as I'm the new owner of this awesome machine! I'm a long time BMW enthusiast and Kyle, you can be sure the car went to a good home :D

Snapped a quick phone pic of the car with it's new garage buddies when I got it home, but will start a project thread at some point next spring. I just plan to enjoy the car for the next couple of weeks before putting it into storage mode for the winter.

Nice fleet. An M-Tech I E30 would go nicely in there :)

Nice fleet indeed, Gary. It's in good company.

I saw Gary driving it yesterday on my drive home from work. Despite the lonely tear falling down my cheek, I was glad to see it on the road. :D
