Unless one was sporting an OE skid plate...wkohler wrote:That looks like something I'd totally be comfortable driving with it. 2" from the ground.
It doesn't appear to hang any lower than the OE pan, just wider.
The seller ended the auction early. Last I checked it was bid up to nearly $1,000. I wasn't able to find any data on this piece on the web. Would have made a nice addition to the build but whatever.

Wouldn't a "real" H35 already have this part?
And wouldn't purchasing this part and installing it on a "real" Hartge car make it less original since this part was not originally installed on the car by Hartge?
I choose not to concern myself with such trivia.
To me it's preferable to build it the way one prefers than obsess over 30 year old spec sheets and pamphlets. Being "original" really isn't but then again I have a bias against "Original Equipment".

I was thinking about putting it on the 528i since it has a damaged oil pan as it is. Hahahawkohler wrote:I hope someone with a real Hartge car picked it up.
I hope you aren't taking a poke at me looking up information on said part, in my 30 y.o. pamphlets. I trust not, as all I'm doing is sharing what little info I have with you roustabouts. Consider me just a record keeper of some Hartge schwag, if it helps. In the spirit of research. BTW the part on topic here is apparently a special part. It wasn't part of the two standard Hartge engine packages, which is why it wasn't standard, it was special. I think the title of the image I referenced above says it all (in German). More useless information I guess. I'm just pointing stuff out and not arguing. Sheez.Murfinator wrote:Wouldn't a "real" H35 already have this part?

Not at all. I've been trying to get away from online bickering since it never goes anywhere productive...Minotaur wrote: I hope you aren't taking a poke at me looking up information on said part, in my 30 y.o. pamphlets. I too have a small collection of period literature and photos of Hartge cars and certainly appreciate the styling and ingenuity of the tuner more so than any of the other shops of the day.
The poke was more at myself for having put so much energy into a 'fake' Hartge car that's comprised of many reproduction and a few original Hartge parts. It's anything but original and I prefer it that way though it seems to grate on some of the purists.
Currently I'm trying to decide how to badge the car in a somewhat correct yet aesthetically pleasing manner. I'll probably address this at some point soon in the build thread. In the mean time I'm always on the lookout for interesting Hartge parts. This oil pan fit the bill but the auction was ended early and my bid was cancelled.
I believe: Spezialmotoren Teile roughly translates to special motor part, correct?
Perhaps I'll PM you soon regarding my badging options for my fake Hartge project. Thanks for the info.

The Hartge oil pan was made for a e30 with a s38 or m30. The Hartge oil pan allow the s38 to sit low in engine bay with out using 20mm spacers. and the engine sit back in position 3. It could hold up to 9 quarts of oil. I have Hartge oil pan that is in bad shape. It came with Hartge modified oil pump. I was biding on it. It sold for over $4200 with 22 bids. The owner canceled the ebay auction because he was offered lot more than 3.110,00 euros.

I collect rare Hartge parts. I ben searching for years for a other one so I can have example to go by. These were made for a e30 m3 s38 H35-24 330hp, e30 s38 H35-24 286hp and e30 H35 m30 250hp.86GT635 wrote:You're serious the oil pan went for 4200$!
That's is absolutely asinine.
Somebody could have them cast for a fourth of that. Hopefully the new owner sees the light of that, and has it done. If 4k is no problem for a real one, $1k should be a no brainer for the same thing.
Yes I sure it sold for over $4200.
