Here's an article about the E12 M535i recently published on the Petrolicious site.

The car in the article is a recent import from Germany. Was for sale for a couple of years.

I read that yesterday and was surprised to see it was in the US. Cool read, some neat pictures in there too!

Nice example, but it ain't no Kohler car.

Jeez, what a f***ing idiot. I can understand a bit of artistic license, but he's way past that. I guess he did a bit of research on the M535i but obviously doesn't know anything about other E12s. No slight to the E12 M535i, but the somewhat less prestigious ones have much more going for them than he is aware of. My favorite line is 3.5 liter straight-six M90 was shoehorned under the hood like it has different exterior dimensions than any other M30 that had been in there since '73.

He uses a lot of unnecessary flowery vocabulary words, distracting to the reader. "Shoehorn" makes it seem more dramatic apparently.

I'm glad the E12 M535i is getting some recognition finally but I'm not sure I know much about this example and how nice it is.

I've got some photos of it from the ad in Germany and it's very sketchy.

Yeah almost like the writer didn't know any of the history of M90 and how it evolved in general from the early M10. Nor how it evolved further with the M88.

I really like the M535i E12 but after doing some research I would really like to see a 530 MLE one day.

Why do guys expect a guy to know the exact historical details of one of the most unheard of "M" cars and a very discrete engine in BMW's history?

I think it's a beautiful car, and an alright write-up. The E12 M535i is my dream car, so I am biased.

Because he has the car. And if you write something from a position of authority the you better damn well know what you're talking about.

I'm a little harsher. If someones writing an article, I expect them to know what they're talking about. Even if it's not your car.

Oh I agree and that was actually my point.

Same thing with this stupid Top Gear article about M5s saying that the E28 M535i was Motorsports first foray into the 5 series and made it sound like it was some special car developed by BMW M with its anamzing 218hp and not that it was just the first ///Marketing car being nothing More than a 535i with some extra bits on it. Also, that it was introduced AFTER the E28 M5.

All while using the same photos everyone else has been using of all the different M cars and the e12 was definitely there.

I'm with you... the "terrifically ‘80s stripes" were actually a product/hangover of the 70's (depending on how you look at it). The M1 was not the predecessor to the m535i as the m88 was developed from the m90 (at least that's what everything I've read has led me to believe). I appreciate what the writer is trying to do, but his lack of knowledge is both embarrassing and confuses people who don't otherwise know any better.
