Some of you might have seen the Tech Talk thread already.

Since January I have been working on a solution to fix crooked E-sport seats in E28s & E24.
What usually happens is that the outer part of the gearbox breaks. It is manufactured from a super light magnesium alloy that develops stress cracks after time and fails if the load is too high.
After some negotiation with the machine shop we agreed on a price break for 20 gearbox plates.
Since I do not own that many E28/24/spare seats I thinks it's a good opportunity to get your seats fixed as well.
Everybody in the machining business knows what an individual plate would cost at a machine shop. The only way to make the development, setup, tool (+special jaws) costs reasonable is to split it between more orders.
I had the same part quoted before between $200-350 if I buy two from a shop.
What's in the package:
- billet aluminium gearbox plate as seen in pictures
- (anodizing in dark grey or black) - I'm still negotiating this part
- 4 M5 Stainless steel bolts
- written instructions
What's not in the package:
- gears
- bushings
- grease
- tools
- backplate (might be available later this year)
Time schedule:
- group buy: 3-21-17 to 4-30-17
- production window: 5-1-17 to 5-19-17 (Vintage-weekend)
- delivery: in person at the Vintage or shipping after 5-22-17
Pricing: (does not include shipping to your location)
- 1 plate = $100 (fixes one side of one seat)
- 2 plates = $180 (fixes one side of two seats or two sides of one seat)
- 4 plates = $ 300 (fixes two sides of two seats)
Deposit:
Since I will purchase the parts from the machine shop in my name, I will ask for a non-refundable 50% down payment in order to give me some safety.
This deposit will have to be in my paypal account before 4-30-17 or I will not be able to place your order.
Will there be a second round?
Who knows. I will have my seats fixed, but I might be able to arrange a second group buy if more people are interested.
For now I can not guarantee this.
