Got some replies– just to clarify, I'm looking for the BMW original 18mm bar or something that's a direct replacement/mounts to the same bushings. Anybody have one of these sitting on a shelf?

Do you have an M5 already? 535is or is this a standard E28 (528/535)?

The M5 bars are 25/19mm and use specific bushings and mounts sized for them. Using these bars and bushings on any mount smaller will result in the mounts being ripped off the body the first spirited drive you do.

535is bars are 21/15.5mm and use specific bushings but the same mounts as the standard E28.

Standard E28 bars are 19/15.5mm and have bushings and mounts matching.

So which are you looking for?

My M5 was missing the rear bar when I got her a few years ago. I bought a new sway bar from the dealer for a couple hundred bucks. Have you tried the dealer? I bet they still have them in stock

Thanks for the info.

The vehicle is in fact a 535i. I have the m5 spec front bar and all mounting/bushing parts to replace the original setup. When I attempted to order the rear swaybar, the part went NLA from BMW.

I am looking for the rear BMW M5 bar, which I understand to be 18mm.

I was hoping it would be so easy! Sadly not anymore.

You're correct, it is 18mm (I was thinking of my Dinan bar).
You will need to weld the rear mount also, usually closing in the open with an additional piece of metal to box it in. Also is should be re-welded to the body otherwise they will be ripped off. You will have to adapt your stock E28 mount since these are parts you cannot purchase from BMW (even if you could I'm sure they too would be NLA at this point). These are the receiving brackets welded to the body not the clamps bolted to them that hold the bushing in.

Thanks for the info. I was anticipating something like this for the frame mounts, just searched and found the reinforcement kits made by akluminus, which seem to fit the bill. Will try to secure some of those.

Now for that rear swaybar. Anyone?
