Just a quick note, Rod's 83 528e is still around and doing well. Nice day here in ATL yesterday, got the old cars out and did some driving. My wife and I still marvel at how smooth and quiet the e28 is.
Also, I followed Rod's lead and ventured back into the VW Golf world again and bought a 2017 GTI Sport. Having had a 1984 GTI when new, I've always wanted to try another one. Super nice little cars, surprisingly good build quality. Hard to get use to something so small and light though. Very hip little car for a old guy.

It was indeed a fine day yesterday (and the two days before) here in the ATL. My son bought a '17 GTI 6 speed. It is pretty fun to drive, but the audio system in the one my son had sucked.
Last but not least, that '83 is looking super fine.

Funny that you mention the sucky audio ... the prior owner of mine added the Helix spare tire sub-woofer amp system, but I still expected much better audio. It must have really sucked before. I've wondered if the Fender audio upgrade option is much better.
Mine is a 6-speed Sport ... which was a one year only model, came with the trick diff, HP bump, slick-top only, big brakes, Nogaro wheels and some dynamic tracking headlights. Perfect little daily driver.

So my son bought his GTI a couple of years ago. Then, he got a job in NYC and no use for the GTI, so he sold it....fast forward, now he's back in ATL, and he bought a.....wait for it....'02 530i sport. We proceeded to add a kick ass stereo in it.
