Question for the group, specifically for those in NYC.
We recently moved back to the City from Portland where we were enjoying very reasonably priced insurance. Moving back, the updated address results in a 300%+ increase in premiums. No bueno, not sustainable.
What is y'all's experience with these cars and insurance in the City? I'm pursuing historic for at least one of them (535is, garaged), but will be difficult to justify that for the other (528e, street parked).
Best insurance company for cheap rates? Historic insurance? I welcome your thoughts!
PS I should add that the 'is is the priority in terms of coverage. The eta I'm not going to carry comprehensive or anything, as much as I love it.

garaged and less driven, no work/school, collector car insurance is gonna be under 5 bills depending on valuation. there are a number of companies with different restrictions. some want a young daily driver, others limit mileage.

Yep, State Farm underwriters denied the application for the eta as historic. Which is not fair, it is old, it is clean, it is not a daily driver, it is a rolling restoration. The 'is should be no problem.

If you're living in Brooklyn I think you're going to be at the mercy of the insurance companies for your daily driver(s) - there aren't going to be any bargains, but just shop around and get the best you can. As for collector insurance I imagine most if not all policies will require the car to be garaged, so you're out of luck for the eta if it's going to be parked on the street

Check with Grundy for the “is”. Agreed value, pretty flexible on use, and very good rates.

In PHX, I pay $275 ANNUALLY and it is as much coverage as you can get, with Grundy and a declared value of $35K. No mileage limitations, but has to be for pleasure and events only and the car has to be garaged. . My car is an '81 635 and I got a $35K declared value. I don't know what their age limits on the cars are. Grundy has been around for a zillion years and as good as the hi buck guys. Their policies are under written by a S&L in Philadelphia who checks out well.
