I've got a loose nut in my head(unit)

Post by Zeuropa »

Hello everyone,

The PO installed an aftermarket headunit in my 533 and it has become loose in the bezel, which allows the unit to rattle while driving which is very annoying. My question is, how do I get to the backside of the unit to tighten it up without breaking some NLA, 40 y/o plastic? E.g. - how does the bezel and HVAC console go together? Lame question I know, but I'm not keen on doing any exploratory surgery on this old (but awesome) gal!

Thanks in advance!

find manual for your hu and determine how it is installed. Usually it is a surround installed that the new hu will attach to. For BMW hus there are a couple of tabs used to remove some and a 5-sided allen-like tool used to loosen and remove another type.

Know what you got before you go in with a crowbar. With AI coming around, maybe we just tell our new AI equipped 3D printer to make us one of those.
