Comfort seat height vs Sport seat height

Post by Tom4444 »

Have a 535i and was wondering if the comfort seats sit higher than sport seats?

I feel like I’m sitting way too high in the car but haven’t had a chance to compare my comfort seat height to another set.

Maybe something is preventing lowering the seat, but I’ve def noticed that you sit much lower in sport seats in the other e28s I’ve driven.

Thanks.

I believe they can adjust to a higher overall height, yes. But I took comforts out after less than a year of ownership in each of my e28's.

Height is adjustable on both power and manual comfort seats to the point where I felt like I was sitting on the floor. Obviously a personal thing I always had it adjusted pretty much at the max height, but when my son drove it he'd have it at the opposite.

So to confirm, the comfort seats get as low as the sport seats, or is it that the comforts still higher than sports at the “lowest” setting.

Trying to figure out if my comforts are just not sitting very low bc of a mechanical problem with the seat or if that’s just how they’re designed.

Having had multipal e28s with both sport and comfort seats, I believe that the sport seats sit lower.

You sit in a sport seat and sit on a comfort seat. I don’t know if the seat base travel is the same but it’s obvious when the seat is at its lowest position, on both.

Currently my car has comforts and sport seats came out of it, the comforts 100% sit higher and I’m a “lowest seat position on all my cars, all the time”.

Looking at the two side by side (and assuming they're both original condition), you can see that the sport seat bottom surface looks lower, because it is…

Kojo96,

Thanks for the response.

I think I’m going to have to get some sport seats bc I def sit a lot higher in the car than I’d like.

Is the popular option going e30 w/ adapters or going reupholstered e28s? Lot more Cardinal red e30s around but I feel everything will need to get reupholstered.

The popular option is to find correct e28 sport seats, 2nd option is the e30 sport seats/brackets.
I'm pretty sure @massive is making them again and has a for sale thread here, this is for the e30 brackets.
Good luck in your search.

I'm not a big guy and the sport seat at lowest position is way too high for me. Steering wheel obscures the speedo. I prefer my seat back set fairly straight up. That's probably why. Most people lean back, it I'm driving in "rally" position 😆. The seat mounts have a spacers, maybe 1". I was going to try cut them off.

Checking to see if you’ve cut the spacers ?

I used to have comfort seats, and i had problems with my head being very close to the headliner when the seat was in the lowest position. The springs in the comfort seat often would have me bouncing on bumps and hitting it.

The sport seats at the lowest position, I have plenty of headroom than before and I dont bounce and hit the headliner. I am 6’4 and have no issues sitting in the car
