Tire rub: 225/50/16 Michelin ps4 or Firestone Indy500

Post by Tom4444 »

Does anyone know if these tires will rub the front strut if mounted on a e28 535i w/ 16x8 e38 et23 wheels?

If not does anyone have another tire size or brand they recommend?

I’m currently on 205/60/15

Absent direct answers on those two tires, you'll need to determine the installed section width as per the manufacturer data, then use that in my spreadsheet.

My experience is the Firestones will rub and I'd expect the Michelins to as well in that size. A 205/55R16 Indy 500 just cleared without spacers slightly stretched on those wheels for me.

I'd just run a spacer and go with the 225 on those wheels in the front.

Naw, I know I've seen 5 and I think 3MM spacers. I concur though, I think either is likely to rub.

Really, with 8" ET 23 wheels? With 7.5 ET 20 wheels I wouldn't be surprised, but with the OP's I would.

Specifically running E38 Style 5's so 16x8 ET23(?). Had that setup on a few different cars (not always with PS4's), never ran a spacer.

Interesting, I was under the impression 16x8 are def going to rub in the front.
Does it depend on if you’re on oem struts ??
Does sub model affect rub? E28 535i vs 528?

Some clarification would be much appreciated.

Morning,

I have used 16x8's on 2 different 535's and a 635, all lowered with HR/Bilstein so unmodified strut. It is certainly tight to the point you might see some minor paint rub on the strut (depending on the specific tire) but I don't think its worth worrying about. Lots of historical information on here that supports that.

Resurrecting this thread bc I’m about to bite on some tires on 16x8 et23 style 5s and want to see if there’s any rubbing w/ the Firestone Indy500 or Michelins

Open to another brand if it’ll fit as well.

Any recent updates on fitment from any board members ?
