I'm 85-90% in! Will want to try to get a roomie for Saturday night and maybe friday, but I might be doing some of the drive late friday night so I may just sleep in my car.

517 miles. google says 9 hours I say 7.5-8. Gonna hit niagra on sunday if nothing else is going on.

Don't count on it. Updstate NY may be rural, but they love a good speed trap, and there are plenty of places for them to hide. Anything 15 mph or more over the posted limit is pushing your luck. I have good luck setting the cruise at 78, 80 indicated (or just following fast traffic, but there isn't much, see my previous sentence for why).

Also, watch the section approaching the border when you're going by the power plants and the speed limit drops to 45. I got pinched there once doing 72.

I'll be leaving Friday around noon/ early afternoon, anybody else traveling at the same time?

I -90 West all the way through New York. I'll cross at Lewiston and then take the QEW to Ted's place. Only stops are for food, waste management, and duty free Canadian beer. Should take me about 8 or 9 hours from Springfield.

Let me know what time you plan on leaving. I'm leaving from about 1-1.5 hours east of you. Depending on what time you leave I may try to meet up with you. Otherwise I'm sure I'll catch up to you on the way

Just FYI to anybody considering going. You do NOT need a passport to cross the border. However, your social security card available in the car is a definite "must have". Social Security card will prove citizenship, driver's license with photo will prove ID. Both of these are sometimes asked of people crossing the border. This usually goes for every occupant of the car if they do ask. I've only been asked for this once, it was no biggie because I had what they were looking for. A passort works as well but isn't required, so don't sweat it if you don't have one.

They aren't requiring passports for Canada-US border crossings until January 1, 2008.

I was hoping to make it to TedFest, but it's officially a "no" now ... I'm going to accompany my sister for 5 days of her 3-week, tour-the-lower-48 drive out west (she's moving from NYC to Washington state).

In fact I'm spending all my free time this week getting her car ready for the trip:

Fixed:
RTABs, rear camber control arm, RSMs (thanks Wiseguy)
Parking brake
Seat belt latch
Windows (two weren't traveling full distance)
New tires and alignment

To Do:
Guibo/trans mounts
Radiator/t-stat/coolant flush
Oil/filter
Air filter
Brakes/fluid flush (not 100% needed, but I have the parts)
Cabin microfilter
Reassemble door panels and back seat

And it's going to be close to 100F here all week (that's 37.8C for you Northerners). So have a great 'Fest, take bunches of pics, and I'll pretend I was there after. :-)

I managed to con my way into gettting Friday completely off! Means I have to work 10s all week, but oh well.

Anybody want to meet up on 90 at one of the rest areas? What time and where?

I will be bringing my freshly-painted style 32's with me, as well as some other parts and things, so there may be a swap meet of sorts!
