I have this tranny out of my old car (was a replacement from a 533i I belive).
It's in my garage and needs to go so I'm gonna sell it dirty cheap.
It was a great tranny, nice a tight when removed.

Looks like a Getrag 260/5 to me, especially if out of a 533i...

Same here, because the bellhouse isn't removable (so not a 265), the shift plate mounts look like sheet metal ones and the cooling fins on the bottom are smaller( so not a 260/6).

That's a 260/5. It should actually say that on I think the left side of the case.

The transmission is a five speed , correct? Can you tell me if the production date was pre or post jan 1984

Why does that matter? The flywheel isn't part of the transmission.

Why does that matter? The flywheel isn't part of the transmission.
It may matter because the 260/5 requires the proper pressure plate to fit inside it's smaller bellhousing. The chunkier clutch bits won't go in there.

But, we know it's a 260/5 and since they were used only in '83 and '84, then then the 265, followed by the 260/6.
