MT said that there was going to be a Z4M with the M3 engine in it. I hadn't heard about it before and thru the BS flag.
But now the new issue of Roundel says that BMW has changed its mind and will build a Z4M and it will have the 400 hp V8 from the E90 M3. This engine is basically the new M5 V10 engine just minus a couple of cylinders.
Maybe MT wasnt full of BS after all

Hehe.
You should see the hubbub on the other boards w.r.t. the new R6 engines coming to the US. Early reports dealers said that the 325/525 actually have a detuned version of the 3.0 liter, not the 2.5 liter. Whereas in Europe, the specs are out already for the 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 liter gas R6 engines.
The new M3 will have the V8. BMW knew this since they were testing it in the old E46 M3. But...you have to realize what type of markets they need to get into and need to stay out of. Alpina and Hartge hold a market share in Europe, and BMW doesn't want to step on their toes. It's actually a very symbiotic relationship.
W.r.t. the Z4, the chassis was evidently made to hold the current and any future V8. This would be evident when you would look into it...and Hartge already had in the pipeline the first Z4 V8 conversion.
Eh, we'll wait and see what BMW decides to do. Too many people getting too hung up on their future plans.

I'd like to see a comparo between a well-modded S50/S52 conversion e30 (maybe an imported M3 Cabrio or an e30 cabrio with the 5-lug/fender flare conversion).
How much lighter is the e30 than the e46? And the power:weight ration of a euro e36 M3 motor (320hp, right?). All that and enough $$$ left over for weeks and weeks of track time. Why let the classics die?
