The super eta is the one to have, but what makes it super (technical changes from the std eta) and what are the results of this change (output, economy, performance stuff)

super eta is kind of an oxymoron. There are top end differences in the engine which boost HP up to 128. The ECU is a Motronic 1.1 and the exhaust looks like a 535i , but isnt. Most of the upgrades just made the parts more expensive. Major advantage is that the ECU handles the cold start , so there is as much stuff to there to fix. I'm currently puttting 800 miles a week on mine and its loving it. At 292 k, it seems to be running better than when I bought it @ 150k. .

Isn't it basically just an "i" top end on an "e" block?

The head casting is I.. but the cam inside is the weak eta cam. The pistons have tops to match the i combustion chambers.
