4-5k on the current one including purchase price. Not counting parts bought for other e28's that will be going on this car.

Including $3250 purchase price, 5 1/2 yrs worth of maintenance, and all upgrades, I'm in this thing about $12-$13k

I don't have a number for the M5 with the engine rebuild going on. The rough estimate is around $6k. This price doesn't include any of the while you're in there sort of things. So that adds about $2k. If these numbers hold, with suspension work (I've got the parts) and various upgrades, and acquisition cost of the M5, I'll have about $17K invested.

Even after I factor in future body work to correct the flaws I won't come close to what Ron has tied up in his M5. But then, Ron's M5 has special history and fortunately the car was well kept by most of it's PO.

Rich

P.S. I had over $11k in recepits not including wheels/tires when the 533i met it's end. I acquired the car in '94 for $5K.

$15k over six years is equivalent to a $208.00 per month car payment, very low cost considering you were driving a BMW the whole time.

Let's see;

Initial cost plus all the stuff I have purchased, plus the known costs of what I will purchase;

I've owned the car for 4 years, and the costs to date are about $6000 including purchase price, but I'm not driving it now and --

I'll be up to about $10,000 to 12,000 to get it where I want it.

Very low cost in my opinion for a car that dirves like this one does, even if my estimate ends up 2-3000 higher.

I have spent appox 10k in upgrades and replacing old components in 4 years so far.
That includes the 4k purchase price.
It sure beats a $500 a month car note! I think?

This is a little embarassing. Paid Cdn $35,000 in 1984. Twenty years of maintenance at approximately $1,000 per year. I'm at least at Cdn $55,000. !@#$

Having checked a few other's calculations, I guess an average of ~Cdn $225 / month over 245 months isn't too embarassing.

Hmmm....
1) Former 87 535is (white/llama) 5spd - $5250 purchase price @ 142k miles (in late 1999)...totalling all parts/maintenance costs (not insurance) through 2004 (April)....total after 4.5 years and 25k miles was around $9,000;

2) My current 87 535i (bronzit/pearl biege) 5spd - $4700 purchase price plus assorted goodies including various spare parts, new Pioneer stereo head-unit, euro cosmetic parts (chrome bumpers, rear parcel shelf w/sunshade, cluster, check control, switchgear, headlamp-grilles, front valance set-up with lamps/corners, rear Zender heckspoiler) ~$1,000 in all for a grand total of $5700 therabouts.

BMW...TUDM :D
how much money have you invested or spent on your CURRENT e28..?
I kinda cheated since I looked at my Excel spreadsheet for gas and maintenance records the other day.

Bought the car September, 2003 for $1900.
Since then, I've spent right around $1,000 for gas (about 16,000 miles, give or take)
I've spent about $1500 -- give or take a few hundred -- on maintenance.

Total for 1 1/2 years of ownership, including purchase price, is about $4500.

Subtract the gas cost since you pay that much in gas no matter what car you drive, and you get $3500 over 1 1/2 years. Divide that into a monthly cost, and it's only cost me $200/mo to own this car, including purchase price. I can't say that you can say that about many new cars!

hmm..
'86 M535i. About $24,000, including purchase price.

Purchased at $6000 in 7/98, @ 114,000 miles.
Currently at 142,000 miles in 2/05.
So that's 28,000 miles in 79 months.

$303/mo
$0.85/mile

Not including insurance, or fuel. When I add those costs, I get:
$420/mo
$1.18/mile

Still cheaper than a new Honda Civic (according to Edmunds).
True cost to own (@15k mi/yr, and $0.36/mile): $450/mo

About $4500

Should level off for a little while. Gotta get the wallet caught up.

Someone at work suggested I look at a new $7500 Cavalier that GM is now dumping due to over stock. I'll have a much better car by the time I hit $7500.

How smart?

You mean how reckless...

I purchased the car in September 2003 for $8,000.00. I then proceeded to put another $7,000.00 in upgrades on the car over the next 12 months. Mind you the interior, exterior, motor and transmission were in excellent condition (108,000 miles) when I got her, but everything else has either been replaced or upgraded.

She is my daily driver and I love the looks comments and the way she drives (we are still talking about the car here).

lol i just added up all my recpiets 2 days ago. How can i not post exact? Since july of last year, $4084.25. Not including the $2400 i paid for it. Love this car and wouldn't trade it for the world. The upgrades are still comng. I gotta decide by next week. Short Shifter or Chip. If i go with chip we can all beat a dead horse with the Conforti vs. D'Sylva battle. lol :D
