New to the forum thought I'd say hi with some pics

Post by EtaMonkey »

Hi all,
I've been reading lots of different posts all week and thought I'd put up some pictures of one of my eta's. I had originally traded a glass sculpture of mine for a non running 86' 528e. I was looking to learn more about cars and a gallery owner was looking to reduce his fleet. A Bentley manual and an $11 trip to the u pull it for the reference and speed sensors resulted in a running car.

The car was originally delphin and sorta beat up, but I thought I'd try a cheapo restoration and present it to my daughter for her 16th birthday.

Long story short. She didn't like it or ever drive it, so it's still mine.

The heat and ac have never worked and the last blower motor that I fried didn't blow the fuse, so the fuse box got hot enough that a bunch of the plastic warped. So I've been looking into trying to build a stroker or swapping in a 535i drivetrain.

To get me through the winter here, I just picked up another 86 - this one is bronzit and the heat works well. Got it for $575.

My current line of thinking involves fixing up the bronzit one to nice clean stock or euro. And making the purple one flat black and play with the stance and 535i engine.

Anyway ... just saying hi

Don't spray over that killer purple color and make the car just another 'flavor of the moment' color. Flat black is getting as 'played' as Lambo doors.

Try shadowlining it first. I think the purple with black shadowline would look pretty nice.

Damn, I would have told the daughter, Tough luck it's your car drive it or walk.

Cool paint, it's different for sure. Agreed with the flat black, or maybe play with a grey/silver idea?

Good luck, keep us posted!

if you can get over the color, the paint looks decent in the pics. I would rock a purple e28. put some green t-stars on it (wait, didn't someone have green t stars FS???) and call it the eggplant.

Just get a purse and some pumps to match and you'll be good to go.

That color screams for shadowline and white wheels.

I'm not familiar with the term shadowlining, but I'll look for it on here.

Nope - was supposed to be closer to Techno violet, but it's obviously a bit brighter. Ehh that's what I get for going to Maaco. They didn't even mask the sunroof, so I had to take a razor to separate the foam seal from the body.

Just blacked out trim

Post by Discomatt »

See the M5's have all the trim and bumpers blacked out instead of the chrome/polished aluminum look, and it would pop with that color. Car looks great, an the ETA motors run damn near forever with lots of neglect. Sounds like wiring and fuse box sorting is next on the list.

Hey! Another upper-midwesterner! Welcome!

Traded it for a glass sculpture? That's gotta be a record of some kind. And that color is pretty special ;) and it looks like Maaco did a decent job on it. Too bad your daughter didn't like it; you'll appreciate it more than she would anyway, so enjoy.

Is that an auto or 5-speed? How about the bronzit?

I think some yellow Style 32s, Viking horns on the hood, and a number 4 license plate would make that car rock!

It's been a while since I've done anything to Violeta, but here's an update. She was put in storage over the winter. And she has mostly sat because I'm only being paid for 14 hours a week until Fall semester starts up.

I've found a local guy who had put a bunch of money into freshening up the suspension of his 87 535i. About 2 weeks after, his daughter was driving it and was rear ended. So he pulled the whole drive train and scrapped the car.

I'm hoping to scrape together some cash and basically convert it from a 528e to 535. I would love to do the M30b35 swap, but that'll have to wait unless there's somebody near by with a spare one.

I cleaned and conditioned the leather seats using Leatherique. They're a little better, but what the really need is to have the little seam rips repaired.

The last thing will probably upset purists, but hey it's my car and you don't have to like it or drive it ;)

A friend of a co-worker who is a pinstriper/ sign painter guy traded some work for 2 glass goblets that I made. So Violeta got a few flourishes. I didn't take very many pictures of the back because it was darkish in the garage, but took a bunch of the front. I like it. Adds a little kick without over doing it in my opinion.

Here she is

It's too bad that purple isn't more blue, like the Alpina Blue color. I think it's neat. Any color looks nice if applied correctly.

That color ROCKS. The pin striping is cool but I would have done it around the back roundel. That car deserves a 'tramp stamp'

 Oh she got it, I just didn't snap any finished pics yet. Both the pinstriper and I had to get places. So I just put her back in the garage to dry.

Maybe I'll run up and snap some more today if the weather is good.
