FS" Dinan e21 333i-Sold 12-9-10
Since this my "home forum" I thought I would give you guys a first look at my car. I hate to sell it as I am really having a great time driving it every day, but my wife has a really great business opportunity and she is about to sign the lease on her space.
Here is the bio on the car:
A rare opportunity to own a great piece of history! This is a “one off” car produced by Dinan in 1980 and has just gone through a sympathetic restoration. It has just over 50k miles on it and is completely sorted out. It is one of the fastest cars that I have ever driven and will surely put a smile on your face.
Dinan started out with a Sapphire Blue 1978 US spec 320i and completely gutted it. They then sent it out to have the entire car painted and changed the color to Ferrari Red. The job was so good that it still retains it’s original paint. Once the car was back from paint, they added a 3.3 M30 big six and a turbocharger. Prior to paint, they grafted the same vintage wheel arches to form a steel fender flare all the way around and they did a fantastic job.
Prior to my ownership, the original air flow meter was replaced by a split second MAF which modernized the fuel delivery.
They also added oil temp, rear diff temp, and water temp gauges and a 5 speed gearbox. It is also fitted with an Alpina finned diff cooler.
I have changed a few things around since I have owned the car. Originally the car was fitted with period correct Recaro seats with black cloth outers and a tan cord insert with a custom tan set of carpet. I have gone to all black with leather outers and a synthetic suede and a set of factory black carpet, a Momo wheel and matching shift knob. They had also had an elaborate sound system that had been removed but all the wires were still there! I found a new in box, period correct am/fm cassette stereo so I can play my ipod. One really rare option was a Blaupunkt stereo speaker carrier on the rear parcel shelf, which I have also rebuilt.
The car will be featured in an upcoming issue of Bimmer Magazine.

I was able to view this car in person when I was visiting SoCal this past summer. Ron was at that time in full gear with the restoration. The car is simply Badass ! I wish I could have taken a ride but the motor was still being assembled and detailed prior to re- installation on the car . I know a ton of work went into this car, good luck with the sale Ron !

Amazing RIDE
Just wanted to share my ride with Ron P. yesterday. The E21 is stout! The power is smooth until Ron ever so lightly touched the accelator - the DINAN turbo spooled up as my back wrenched into the sport seat. WOW!
We hit 80mph in a heartbeat.
This DINAN E21 is the fastest I've been in.
I was there the day the car showed up from Texas. THis car needed more that some TLC - Ron knew this car - It was a diamond in the ruff .Ron spent hundred's of hours on the paint alone. Ron basically rebuilt this rare Dinan E21. Phil Slate is the mastermind behind the motor/turbo work. Together they brought this beautiful example back from the dead.
Best of Luck with the Sale - Turbo's rule!PML

Thank you all so much for the great endorsements, especially Johnny, Paul, and Regan whom have all seen the car in person!
I missed the boat to send the car to San Francisco as the transporter had a full load and the car had to be there by noon today. In my younger years, I would have done a hero run and would have left this morning at 4:00. Instead, Evan will be listing the car today on eBay. Supposedly it is going to rain up there today, so I just didn't want to risk that either.
Thanks again,
Ron

Well get on up here, junior! No doubt you had a "power play" in this restoration...you for sure jumped on the grenade for the team! Also, I reserved you a "second chance" with Cindy's friend, so you will need to be on your "better" behavior! As an early member of the I Left Skin & Part Of My Life In A Certain e21 Club ya can't sell it before I get a ride in it.

This older gentleman was next to me at a stop light in a brand new Porsche turbo. So the light turns green and I can tell he wants to get ahead of me and get to my lane. Knowing his next move when the light turns green, he stands on it, only to find out that the old 320i may not just have the little 2.0 L motor, so I back off and let him in front of me. The left hand turn lane turns green and he again stands on it, and I am right behind him!!!! So, I go around him and he turns left and then comes to a stop to see what the hell that little old BMW that kept filling his mirrors up in his $150k masterpiece-penis extension was!!! It was a great moment!Ron....let's hear it! I dig these kill stories of oldschool beauties altering big egos... LOL
