Need Assist w/Motronic 1.3 Conversion & Limp Mode

Post by MLastovo »

Hello,
Has anyone successfully converted to Motronic 1.3 on a 4 HP 22 EH trans equipped car? If so, did you have to do any additional/specific steps with the trans circuit? The trans is stuck in limp mode and what good is that after all the effort?

ANY info you may have would be greatly appreciated.
This inquiring mind needs to know!

Thanks,
D.

E24 635CSi trans computer and harness - at least the computer. They changed it in 6/1987 (code AB). It's specific to the '88-'89 E24, which runs Motronic 1.3. Should plug right into your existing harness. Of course, this is the third time I've mentioned this.

Of course, you're looking for a literal answer to your question, which would be no, I've never done this conversion.

Yeah, I got it. If I had one up my ass I would have installed it already.

Ask me when the last time I spied a 635 of the correct vintage.

You don't have to go to the yard...

Autobahn probably has one, and of course, there's bigcoupe.

I believe there's a good chance this will work, though I'm also not sure what wires were moved around in trying to get the light to shut off, so that could affect things further.

Been to Autobahn. Even bought a gift certificate at the auction...

Maybe I should believe in Santa Claus 'cause I don't know how he does what he does either.

What about Ebay's Memorial Day ECU sale?

I'm making a bloody mary now.

I meant auteaux trans computer.
There's a dude in Escondildo parting an e24 but I don't know the year. It should still be on Craigs.

I'm thinking of skipping the bloody mary in lieu of beer.

Just wondering what type of connections you've done to the tranny computer. Have you supplied it power to pin 35? Are you using the original TPS or the round plugged B35 TPS? I have no idea if they're electrically equivalent but they may be since both provide a variable signal.

I would think, without having done any research that is, that one out of an E32/34 would work too, didn't they use the same engine management, at least the early cars, as the B35 E24s? On the other hand, I seem to vaguely recall something about later 4HPs using a slightly different connector, which might complicate life.

The unit mentioned is specific to the E24, and since his auto tranny in the '88 came from an '89 E24, I'd want to try that first.

Of course, I would really like to see something else happen first, but doubt that's happening.

Now you are talking more specific to the issue. Not that you weren't familiar.

At this point I am likely to plagiarize your sig and have a fire sale. How many M5 trunk kits can one guy have if he doesn't have an M5 or even a BMW? And the Alpinas will be back from the wheel shop very soon and I know there must be somebody that would like a set of powdercoated open lug wheels.

Maybe a Chevy Cobalt is in my future. With the $3k that was raised to paint the '88 I should be able to put some really bitchin' Hot Wheels flames on it and have the baddest Cobalt in the 'hood.

The sellers on there are more worthless than stuff you have to buy to advertise for someone else.

Interesting page. Thanks.

Do you know how to have it search for a transmission ECU only? After entering the info for an '88/'89 e24 it presents radio buttons for "ABS", "Air Bag", & "Cruise Cont".

Neither of those are the trans ECU.

I went all through that list this afternoon. There's nothing there for what you need. Best bet is to call one of the people that say they have a 1988 or 1989 635CSi, and ask.

Which attitude are you referring to? The one relating to where I asked a question and the reply(s) was/were not relevant? If so, your ‘attitude calibration’ needs some, er, calibrating. If you have some other attitude angle please present it.

Or were you and the OP referring to Linus’ attitude?

You know what, Chris? I have always been nice to you and defend you to other forum members that talk shit about you (in fact, I did so on Saturday night) but I'm pretty tired of you and don't really have the energy to deal with you. I'm nice to you, offer to help you out, and generally leave you alone even when you are being intentionally difficult. Even after you telling me to go fuck myself in a post last night just because I was trying to point something out I thought you missed because I can't always tell when you are being sarcastic, I was still going to send you those RZ center caps you need. I don't get the constant antagonizing and don't get why you are trying to push my buttons when I've never done anything to you. Rather than throw a hissy fit and turn it into some sort of useless flame war, I'd prefer it if you'd simply ignore my posts if they are not directed at you. I will be happy to do the same. I'll even ignore the fact that you still owe me $5.
