Snap-Crackle-Pop Radio

Post by BMW 635 »

I am having a cracking sound on my radio when I crank
the volume up a little.
Factory radio is still installed.
Any ideas where to start?

I'd start by performing a "search," as this has been previously discussed. Then I'd get some electronic tuner cleaner, remove the radio from the car (make sure you have the code if needed), stand the unit on its butt and flood the volume knob shaft with the cleaner. Usually helps out quite a bit. Good luck!

I had the same problem, pull volume button off and spray in some compressed air. It will help a little. I finally put in a new head unit. My old radio was a bitch to get out.

Good Luck,

If only there was some sort of magic electronic device where you could type in "Caig deoxit" and find out. I mean really, they can put a man on the moon...

Well, EXCUSE ME!
I guess I should have offered to fly to Dallas, remove your radio and spray the volume control for you.

It didn't occur to you to google where to get Deoxit, in the off chance that maybe you and Chas didn't live in the same town? I mean, I get what you're saying about the attitude around here, but c'mon, we (the royal we) told you exactly what you needed to know and without even so much as a thank you, you came back and asked for more information. That could have been ok in certain circumstances, however both of your inquires were for information that is is easily attainable, and was a masturbatory exercise at best. I gotta go with Mr. Gray on this one. If anything, you insulted him (us).

Enjoy your next respite. Talk to you when you can't get your heat to shut off next spring...

I stand by what I said........

Post by BMW 635 »

My statement still stands.

This site is a plethora of knowledge and experience.

There are however, several "keyboard warriors" here
all too ready to pummel on every question or comment made.

If the poster misspelled something or didn't have the EXACT
component name or some other obscure item, this forum has all too many people jump down their throat.

My other 635 site comments all the time about the rude and
disrespect that is often seen here.
Many others have noticed and commented on the
treatment and tone over here.

In closing, my initials are not GFY
You can surmise what I am trying to convey here.

Have a wonderful day.

So none of the nice e24 people could answer your radio question? I'm so sorry you had to lower yourself by coming over here.

You also have a nice day, it was a pleasure to assist you.

How can you not love a guy complaining about rudeness that ends his posts with 'Go fuck yourself'? ;)

Hi everyone. I'm John, a longtime lurker, who has recently, due in large part to this community, purchased a 1985 535i.

I wanted to reply to this thread as my introduction because, despite the bickering, this fix is magic. I mean it. Magic.

I'll be sharing my thoughts on various other fixes that I've tried in the last week or so. But honestly, this one worked so well that I wanted to start here. I didn't even remove the radio and let the Deoxit flush through. I just turned the radio off, removed the knob, gave it a few squirts, and turned the stem a few times to spread the fluid around. Done and done. Went from a non-functioning stereo to the glory of the factory sound in about 90 seconds.

Welcome to the group John. Some here can be a little impatient with searching among other things, but it's really a good supportive group. Judging by your first post here you'll do well.

Welcome to the Board. I'm glad you were having radio issues, if for no other reason than to resurrect this epic thread. :)
