FS: 1983 533i w/Ford 5.0L V8 & T5 manual trans conversion
I am starting a new project (E39 w/LS2) and so it is time to sell the V8 swap E28. The car has been complete for several years now and is a very reliable and fun weekend cruiser. It passes Colorado Dyno Emissions Test with no trouble and comes with all Emission Referee documentation. I'll be adding to the description as I rember various details but for now, here's the specs:
1983 533i
2000 Ford 5.0L GT40 V8 from Explorer (same a GT40 Cobra other than cam and rockers)
Tremec T5 5-speed
91 Mustang GT A9P ECU
One piece steel driveshaft
Shortie headers, high flow cats and mufflers
E34 Comfort front seats
E34 540i remote brank booster assembly (deleted hydroboost)
E38 740i Alloy Wheels with new BF Goodrich High Performance Tires
Euro Bumpers (need hammer/dolly work but no rust)
New HD green motor mounts
New BMW floor mats
New windshield and seal
New headlights
New window and sunroof seals
New heater core and heater valve
New Clutch master cylinder with stand alone reservoir
New optima red-top located in the trunk.
Deleted A/C
Body:
Everything but the roof and A-pillars was stripped to bare steel and has 3 coats of SPI Epoxy Primer. No rust or body filler anywhere on the car.
Here are some pics:
looking for $5000 or best offer. If interested, please PM me. Car specific questions will be answered in this thread unless requested otherwise. Note: I'll update the thread to include the cars mileage this evening.
Thanks!

What sort of fuel mileage do you typically get with this setup?

I've never bothered to calculate it as the car was not a daily driver. In 5th gear the rpm's are pretty low with the stock 533i rear gear ratio. So much so that I rarely used overdrive unless on the highway. I was never able to drive the car with the original drivetrain so I have no frame of reference to compare.Kyle in NO wrote:What sort of fuel mileage do you typically get with this setup?
Thank you for your question Kyle!

Looks like the engine from that year Explorer only made 215hp, is that correct?

That sounds correct, the Explorer cam is tiny and made for torque. The Fox body mustangs only made 225hp and the 93 Cobra (which this engine is heavily based only made 245. The Explorer GT40 engine just doesn't have the cam and rockers that the 93 Cobra came with, thus the power difference. There is a TON of horsepower available with just a cam swap.Jargo wrote:Looks like the engine from that year Explorer only made 215hp, is that correct?
This setup is probably good for a few more ponies than the stock Explorer due to better breathing and the A9L processor.
Thanks for your question!

Having been a big fan of the Letterman/Newman Volvo conversions, I think that's cool as hell. Primer looks sick. Is there any reason you couldn't just leave it like that rather than paint it?

Love this car. If the buyer back in 2016 ever thinks of selling, give me a shout!
