Sulfur odor from cat

Post by Mike W. »

This is not in TT because it's not happening on an E28. Those cats are too good.

On both my E39, a 525it, and the Datsun, a Infiniti QX4, I tend to get a sulfur odor on mountain passes when they're working hard. Premium gas seemed to be a solution for a bit, but no longer. Not extreme, but I can smell it inside, windows up. Both run well with no CEL. Now there's a thousand products out there that claim to fix it, but do any of them? Or, are my options to either hold my breath and not breathe until I crest the hill or spring many $$$ for new cats?

Is this a recent development from both cars? Change gas brands.

Unfortunately not. More on trips than anything else and random brands.

If it’s multiple cars in that area, sounds like a feature of the experience for the area.
Cars are probably fine, like you said cats are working hard. Probably tired. Definitely a really interesting phenomenon though.

We changed the cat food. :moon:
It smells, but not as bad as the deposits that those vile little creatures deposit on my lawn, and sidewalk, and dirt etc.
