That 535 is a car I'd be scared to drive. Hit a puddle or get on a gravel driveway and BOOM, it's not perfect anymore.

This other thing though --> https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-bmw-bavaria-3/

now that's a car that begs to be driven. Just needs some nicer wheels...

Going back to the question of met reserve/sold rate of e28 M5's on BaT, there have been a total of 16 e28 M5s listed since 2015. 10 of them sold, for a 62% sales rate. Average sold price was $32,266 and average unsold (reserve not met) ending price was $21,186.

That’s three5ives’ car, previously owned and brought to cleaner-than-showroom condition by occoupe. Truly a masterpiece. Cleaner in person than in photos. I’m surprised it hasn’t been bid higher than that by now because it’s definitely worth more. Still a few days to go through.

Being discussed here:

I don’t believe you could buy this car with BitCoin because the car actually exists

I guess I don't have a good enough understanding of Bitcoin. Maybe they were the same ones Charlie can't find.

Sure, I just sell it and it goes right into my bank account. It's actually more real than the USD.

Quite simply because a thread meant to be a discussion about that particular car is not the place for a debate about BAT and how many M5s meet reserve there etc. I think the term is "thread hijacking". If I started a thread about selling my car I wouldn't want every other comment on it to be from you questioning the effectiveness of selling a car on BAT. Sooooo...it was suggested you stop littering the guy's thread and start one of your own about BAT. Which could be an interesting thread....on its own.

No sir. It was originally suggested to George Hanson to stop using the other thread as a debate forum about BAT. Not a big deal...just out of respect to the gentleman selling that car.

Okay I thought I might have done something wrong. I started this thread over here because people didn't want us talking about all that stuff in the cars for sale area. I will do my best to keep it to the cars from now on. The car is at 20k right now. It looks like a nut and bolt restoration but owner says it's not. Wow

Yeah I have had a couple people interested but it really doesn't hurt for me to sit on them. I was thinking about going to vintage 2018 and dragging my trailer full of my E28 stuff. I am going to register as a vendor. Actually the car on BAT could use one of my mint door panels (LOL).

***False. The thread has one purpose, and only one purpose, it serves as an advertisement meant to drive traffic to the BAT auction -- simple as that.***

I think the term is "thread hijacking".

***Kind of tough for you to make a judgment of this nature when you don't understand the original premise for the thread.***

If I started a thread about selling my car I would want ever other comment (***huh?***) on it to be from you questioning the effectiveness of selling a car on BAT.

***It started as an advertisement for an auction on another site. As such, the topic at hand is as much advertising and auction effectiveness as anything else. Hey, I'm only interested in HELPING the seller, eager to see him get top dollar!***

Sooooo...it was suggested you stop littering the guy's thread and start one of your own about BAT.

***Appears you may have gone through life heeling to the commands of others but I can assure you I have not  ***

Which could be an interesting thread....on its own.

***What are your thoughts on the issue? Do you think BAT is the best venue to sell THIS car? If so, why? What do you think the reserve is? Will it meet reserve? Ultimate sale price?***.

I believe it is you who missed the point of the sellers thread. He posted that his car was going on auction on BAT. Simple. Yes it was meant to draw attention to HIS car on BAT. You turned it into a debate about the effectiveness of BAT as a forum for selling a car. Then you started discussing the success rate of selling M5s on BAT (perhaps you forgot the seller was not selling a M5). You took his thread and made it about you. Still, no one was rude about the fact that you had indeed "hijacked" the thread and we were no longer talking about the sellers car, but it was SUGGESTED that you start a new thread about the effectiveness of selling a car like that (or a M5) on BAT. That suggestion was meant to prevent this bullshit from occurring and to keep threads on topic and an overall pleasant place to discuss these cars.

As for my take on the BAT auction, I think that you are more likely to find a rare car enthusiast (not just an e28 enthusiast) on BAT. His car is indeed rare due to it's outstanding condition. He is likely to find deep pockets that are willing to fight it out with their wallets over a rare vehicle. If he wanted say 30k for the car, he could post it here for 30k and perhaps get 30k (although a buyer would probably offer him 28k to play hardball). On BAT he can set the reserve for 30k and wait to see, again, if people will desire such a rare care to such an extent that they will drive the price up. My car is not in such a rare condition. It is worth what other e28s in similar condition have gone for. I will get roughly the same for it no matter where I put it for sale. His is rare. What is it worth? There aren't any comps for it. It is worth what someone will pay for it. And buyers in an auction on BAT will drive that upward. And he is protected by the reserve. Could be wrong but that's what I see happening.

***As a lawyer buddy of mine often writes when redlining laughable briefs......Waah.***

As for my take on the BAT auction, I think that you are more likely to find a rare car enthusiast (not just an e28 enthusiast) on BAT.

***Why do you think this?***

His car is indeed rare due to it's outstanding condition.

***Agree 100%***

He is likely to find deep pockets that are willing to fight it out with their wallets over a rare vehicle

***How does the 62% success rate of E28 M5's sales on BAT dovetail with your assumption here?***

If he wanted say 30k for the car, he could post it here for 30k and perhaps get 30k (although a buyer would probably offer him 28k to play hardball).

***...."hardball" is a 2-way street, seller could counter with $32k. Go take a negotiations class my man!***

On BAT he can set the reserve for 30k and wait to see, again, if people will desire such a rare care to such an extent that they will drive the price up.

***OK***

My car is not in such a rare condition.

***Not relevant***

It is worth what other e28s in similar condition have gone for.

***Ditto***

I will get roughly the same for it no matter where I put it for sale.

***Don't care.***

His is rare.

***You're about 2-for-8 now, good going!***

What is it worth?

***My prediction was Does Not Meet Reserve with bid of $33,075 which includes the 5% BAT buyers premium. What's your prediction?***

There aren't any comps for it.

***Interesting observation. I think THIS car should be comp'd against the E28 M5 market....plenty of comps available.***

It is worth what someone will pay for it.

***WOW!!!***

And buyers in an auction on BAT will drive that upward.

***We shall see. Truth is the over the weekend wine driven bidding is already withing spitting distance of my expected price...but despite my observation that THIS beautiful automobile should be comp'd against the E28 M5 market, not sure I have fully embraced that in my predicted price of $33,075 (which I do not expect to meet reserve). Definitely haven't...***

And he is protected by the reserve.

***What do you think the reserve is?***

Could be wrong but that's what I see happening.

***Ultimate sales price?***
