Re: Who daily drives their E28?
During the spring, summer and fall, yes it's my daily driver. It does get parked in the winter.
Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I drove my 535i daily through January 2017. That's when its inspection expired, and it's too far gone to make drivable on public roads, though I still fire it up from time to time. It has 585k miles, so it doesn't owe me anything.
These days my daily driver is a 2001 325Ci.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
Similar to Suart, but more like don’t drive it if the roads are wet, rain or snow. Put on about 5,000 miles per year.
Re: Who daily drives their E28?
+1
About 4-5k miles a year these days (short city commute) down from 10K+ 5 years ago.
About to hit 100k in my ownership and 275K miles.

Need to start thinking about reupholstering seats and considering some paint work.

I used to, but I stopped doing that a handful of years ago.
Honestly, I just want to ride my bicycle.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I daily my 533i about 70 miles 4-5 days a week. Just started driving her consistently since about Julyish. I don’t plan on driving when it rains, because I have some seals that need to be replaced. I get a Saabroof leak when I take my car through a touchless car wash so I’m not sure how she would do in the rain. When I bought the car this past January, it sat in the previous owners driveway for quite some time. And had a puddle of water in the rear passenger seat foot well. So, I’m not sure if that’s due to a clogged drain near the c pillar or what.

Damn dude 585K that's just beautiful. Sorry to hear about the inspection where's the rust?RonW wrote:I drove my 535i daily through January 2017. I drive my E28 every day I'm not on a motorcycle, there is no snow to speak of and no salt in Seattle. Every now and then I drive the SAAB when I want to ride topless or keep a few miles down on Maxine but at 158K she's just a baby. Housemate has a kitchen appliance car. I'd sooner take the bus.

Rust is everywhere. Fenders, doors, footwells, trunk, bumper mounts, strut mounts. Frame rails are what finally killed it, but failing wiring was waiting in the wings. Loads of sheet metal and blind rivets fixed the footwells and bumper mounts and got it through its last year.SeattleGuy wrote:Damn dude 585K that's just beautiful. Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I was daily driving my e28 from when I bought it in 2016 to a few weeks ago when I bought my new daily e39. I probably put around 20k miles on it in that time. Now I only take it to work on sundays and some saturdays
Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I live in Houston and daily drive mine about 12-15k miles per year in heavy traffic. AC blows cold with Sanden and parallel flow condenser. It’s a 60 mile round trip to work. I only worry about some moron smashing into the back of me. It’s really comfortable.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
Not daily but try to get it out every weekend. Averaged some 5K/year in 4 years ownership so far. Leisure-time, 3-hour or less trips for the most part. Longest trip was last year to the Vintage.
Very, very little use in winter, and strict policy of washing after any exposure to snow, no matter how short.

I wish you had made this a poll. Might have been a question, but I think a poll, years ago here asked the same thing. I can't find it, I tried, but it would have been nice to see the comparison.
At the time I was dumbfounded any wouldn't be daily driven. But some were. Lots now seem to be hobby cars, not DDs although the responses so far don't look like it.
Oh, me? I sold mine years ago now.
But until then it was definitely a DD.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
My E28 is ostensibly my daily driver, but I parked it behind the non-working french car a couple months ago and haven't driven it since. Hard to believe that I've put over 50,000 miles on the car. I still need to get around to doing a manual swap, but I'm busy and donors are getting hard to find.
I think I need to raise to car back up to stock height so I can use it for volunteering for rally racing (The eight hour drive to Idaho was OK in the truck but I would have rather been in the E28). Wow, I never thought I'd say those words. I really must be growing up.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
As part of that shift, avoiding wet conditions, I moved from All-season to Summer performance tires. I didn’t read the fine print, “Not be used near or below freezing”. Two things I have correlated since discovering this.
1. I could never understand why it felt like there were small washboards for the first 2 miles from my house, in all directions. Initially I thought it was the roads, then I thought it was cold suspension or something. No, cold tires that take a while to get round again after sitting all night and freezing.
2. a) Why I was drifting a certain corner and b) there was no tire squealing noise.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
i would probably really enjoy daily driving my M5, but with the prices of them skyrocketing, I couldn't do it, without being fearful of something happening to it. I did daily drive my old 535i, for a couple years, while in high school.
I daily drove my red e30 for almost 100k miles, and I am going to be going back to driving it every day again, here shortly.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I daily one or the other of my eta's. About a 25 mile round trip on I5 from Vancouver WA to Portland OR and back.
Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I daily my E24. I put about 15,000 miles on it last year.
Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I did until the suspension let go. Currently driving a civic until I can get my less-rusty e28 running as a summer daily.
Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I'm retired so I don't have anywhere to drive in particular each day. I have five (old) BMW's that I try to rotate driving so they all get some exercise. Furthest trip taken in my E28 was to Austin, Texas, about 275 miles from our home in Wichita Falls. Enjoyed the trip...had to drive the car hard (E28) to keep up with modern traffic on good Texas roads.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
In Seattle, Vlad was my daily from Bellevue to downtown and back, rain or shine (when it wasn't being worked on). I put 30k miles on the car from April 2013 to April 2018 (I bought Vlad right as I started working at Amazon, to be my daily driver).
Now, in Utah Vlad is my daily as long as there's no salt on the roads.

Re: Who daily drives their E28?
I've had my 88 535i since July 2018. It's my only vehicle and I live in Palm Springs but my work is mostly in LA, a 350 mile round trip.
I usually do the round trip same day. My car is pretty original, paint/interior black/black. mileage when I purchased it was 297,xxx miles.
3.5 months later I am only 800 miles from turning 300,000. The motor has not been rebuilt, but the transmission was replaced with a used auto w/only 27,000 miles on it.
Favorite things about it as a daily driver?
Comfort seats, automatic transmission-I know, least desirable options I know, but for my daily usage in bumper to bumper traffic, they're perfect!
Cruise control/power seats, sunroof, windows, power locks, trip computer, all working perfectly and a joy to use.
Original radio replaced w/Bluetooth head unit, which is great for my phone music library, NAV and phone calls.
When car is down for service, I'll just rent an economy car while it's down.
Love my e28 as a daily driver. AC ice cold, no heat but where I live it's fine!

Agree. My daily is an auto Super-ETA and for Los Angeles traffic it's perfect. It was supposed to be my parts hauler until I got the M5 on the road but I think it's a keeper.Rootbeer wrote: Favorite things about it as a daily driver?
