A friend has found a 1973 2002tii sitting out in a field in northern North Dakota. He says it appears to be complete. I've only seen one photo; the weeds around it are too tall to tell much but what I could see looks decent. It is a slick top, no sunroof. He doesn't know if it has a title.
I know it's a difficult question to answer but any guesses on what it may be worth? Assume it's not too rusty (North Dakota cars tend to be pretty clean) and assume he can get a title. I know a '73 tii is a desirable car.
2002tii value?

Re: 2002tii value?
Yeah, it's kind of a shot in the dark but I'm not up on 2002 values. I'm just looking for a reasonable ballpark.
I checked the Hagerty price guide. Their values go from #1 concours to #4 rough daily driver:
#1 Concours condition $128,000
#2 Excellent condition $82,900
#3 Good condition $38,700
#4 Fair condition $15,400
Their prices are supposed to be based on actual recent sales, but boy that seems pretty generous to me.
Since this car is something less than a #4 condition I suppose it could be worth anywhere between $10k and scrap value. My friend is a big classic Ford guy so I don't know if he has any particular interest in a vintage BMW, beyond being able to rescue it from the field if he can get it for a good price.

Personally I think the Hagerty prices to be too high.stuartinmn wrote: Jul 18, 2024 4:12 PM Yeah, it's kind of a shot in the dark but I'm not up on 2002 values. I'm just looking for a reasonable ballpark.

Rust would be the biggest issue, how far gone is it?

Don't know, all I've seen is one photo but I suspect it's pretty rough based on how tall the weeds are around it. Anything is restorable but it may be only worth having as a parts car - I imagine the tii specific components are worth some money. He's going back to check it out more closely in a couple weeks.
Re: 2002tii value?
I've paid as little as $500 for rusty tii's that were still able to make a 100-mile drive home. With Bring-A-Trailer setting the market at rather unsustainable prices for the best versions, the whole world has gone insane.
