One reason I like this format is that since I dislike this format, I will spend less time on the board, leaving me more time for other things! :D

I find it is taking me longer to browse the new messages. Quite often a thread will go off on a useful tagent from the origional post. This new format forces you to open the thread to see all the yammering. What do I know, I just wanted to post something.

I like how it keeps active topics at the top -- instead of them being knocked down into the archives after 3 days...

Yeah, that'll be extremely handy when somebody finds a year-old "beer this weekend at XXX'x house" or three-year-old "for sale" post and starts posting to those threads. %)

I'm getting more work done. Don't have time to scan all the sub-room posts.

I think both formats have their weaknesses, really. Right now I find it kind of time consuming to keep my eyes peeled on both forums. I wasted enough time per day doing that with one board. :D

Change is always difficult for any organization. If you think about it, that's what this board is: an organization. There are aspects of this format I like, such as editing posts. There are aspects I don't like, such as the splitting up of topics. But it is necessary due to the high volume this board has experienced lately.

Whew, got my first post out of the way.

Modern message board formats seem to attract the worst type of internet idiot thanks to the masterbatory instant gratification of seeing a thread rocket to the top after posting. If we self police, I think this new format will work out well. Corner Carvers has the best set of rules EVER:

Thanks, Ed! All of us would do well to read and follow those rules, despite the fact that those rules are not law on this site.

One way we can improve things: get rid of the enormous sig images. Mine takes up half the screen on my little iMac so it's going away.

Maybe the recommended reading list can become part of the requirements for entry, kinda like having a Bentley.

I didnt like it at first but Its growing on me. I'm not a huge fan of the format in the sense that you get an idea of the post you have to look at every reply, you cant just scan and pick what you want to, and skip the rest. But it does feel more streamlined, and I like that. In the end I'll come here and read no matter what, but thats cause I'm an addict.

I'm hoping this format gets rid of the YGM messages that were so prevalent under the old one. The use of PM should eliminate the need to constantly post these messages that are only intended for a specific person.

You know, if you are a software designer, it would not take much to make this thing work minus it's skin! Offer it as an option!
I know it is not available as a product, but food for thought!
Remember the #1 rule of good software design! " do; undo"
