Center console removal 85 535
Is there a step by step on this? I was t to remove my seats, center console and carpet to do a deep clean, detail after I finish all the mechanicals headed toward a restoration and refinish of my paint.

There are a couple pages in the BMW manual that addresses
the under steering wheel cover, parking brake cover, shift surround on page 51-12
51-13, page 739 in the online pdf of that manual of 945 pages goes on with the shift console and radio surround
Then the manual goes to glovebox removal on the next page.

In case you don't have the factory manual, here's a couple of snaps of it. It used to be freely available online, but no longer.

Sent those pages but the pdf is 88+MB so not so easy to email the whole thing.
I don't have a proper hosting site, yet, to post those two pages.

The upper console is attached to the A/C grill below it with a few screws. When I reassemble the console, I leave those screws out, so it's a lot easier to disassemble the next time.

Old thread bump...
When you leave out the A/C grill's upper screws do you get any noticeable movement or misalignment between it and the upper console? Or do the other screws hold the grill well enough that you really don't need the upper ones?RonW wrote: Nov 03, 2022 11:46 PM The upper console is attached to the A/C grill below it with a few screws. I don't notice any movement. The upper and lower parts are firmly attached to the car, so their connection to each other is superfluous.HayekFan wrote: Jul 21, 2024 7:24 PM When you leave out the A/C grill's upper screws do you get any noticeable movement or misalignment between it and the upper console? Okay, got it -- thanks. I was able to find a pristine A/C grill with no broken slats and an intact cigarette lighter socket. I bought it without realizing what a PITA it is to remove the original. If I ever get around to doing the replacement I will definitely leave those screws out.
