Assistance needed with Chip identification

Post by repoman »

I have this chip in my motronic and it appears that the label may have fallen off. The numbers/letters appear as follows:

LD2732A-4
U7430088S
PGM @ 21V

It looks like it has a large 'i' on it as well.

Here's a pic:

Stock chips don't have that transparent window in them. Its something aftermarket...no real way to tell what though.

I don't know what it is, but I do know what it is not.

It is not,
Stock
Conforti
Dinan

I've had one or more of each of them, and it doesn't look anything like any of them.

Hit it with UV and you won't have to worry about what it was.

(after thought I could be i for injected? stock?)I have no idea but from what I can tell by the way it looks from you pic is 1 it looks old as the orange window is starting to crack is looks very brittle and, 2 it does look cheap of they couldn't glue the window on so it was parallel, with the chips edges, it shows shoddy craftsmanship. Unless the glue has just lost it umph and it has slid over...then that means cheap supplies were used............... SUPPLIES!!!... get it supplies!? oh man...

the "i" represents the new apple i-chip. It is really a cool new chip from apple. You can sync your car to your i-pod, your i-phone, i-tunes, and your i-toaster.

I Googled the first number. Call this company, they may be able to tell you. They have 5,000 in stock.

pldlnr had a great guess, however, after making the call as discovered by 2ndeagle, the answer is

INTEL :alright:

Apparently Intel experimented with the chip as well. Could be a custom programmed chip. I'll see if I can find out anything else thru Intel.
Although 4starelectronics website stated they had 5000 in stock, they do not have any left.

WOW...almost four years to the date...I found another one!

Post by repoman »

The first time I found this chip, it was pulled from a 635CSi (I still have the unit now). Now I just pulled one from a E23 735i from the same junkyard...weird. Both units had the word MOD handwritten on the outside of the casing. Both are 24 Pin. Sadly, I no longer have my E28 to dyno the chip. I did test the first one to see if it worked in my E28 when I still had it.

Still haven't found any specs on the chip.......

Didn't mean to dig up an old thread, just thought it rare to find another....

That's an EPROM chip (Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory) that is erased with UV light. That's why derrit made that comment. My stock chip didn't had that window in it so I'm going to say that is a knock off.

^ Winner

I actually recognize the number on that chip, it's a very famous intel eprom (hence the i). It's possible that BMW used this chip, but if they did, their order would be large enough that they likely would have re-branded them. You can still buy these from china I think.

Link to the datasheet if anyone's interested
