WTB M30B34 camshaft

Post by Mab1957 »

Want to buy stock M30B34 camshaft or new satisfactory aftermarket equivalent. AJ at Bimmerworld says BMW are NLA and Shrick camshafts have been on backorder for 10 months.

I've now provided 3 used cams to the machine shop, all are worn and unsatisfactory.

Machine shops often have unreasonably high standards, like new or better? Then again sometimes they speak from experience. Whatever.

If you're interested in a B35 cam, FPC shows them available for a bit over $200. Slightly hotter than a B34, but also passed smog in later years.

Thank you for the tip, Mike W. I'm always pleased that you take the time to help us out here in this forum.

This is my first M30 rebuild so intended to use a straightforward 'go back with stock' approach. Is B35 cam a direct swap for the B34 cam or will other modifications/parts and Motronic changes be needed? He asked me to get a full set of rockers and seals plus exhaust valve guides and the cam to rebuild the head for me. He is also preparing the block and crank, which passed inspection, then I'll then reassemble it all.

B35 cam will be a direct swap, I put one in b34 build when I rebuilt the head for my turbo 633/535is.

I have a used b34 cam on the shelf i could sell, but again I don't know if your machinist will say it is not usable.

Came from an 85 b34.

Tom nailed it above. I can only add I have at least 2, perhaps 3, B34 cams in similar condition to his. I would use them in a heartbeat, but I'd bet some to most machinists would fail them, so I'm not offering them to spare both of us grief.
