WTB: AC pipes
Hello all,
Please help me complete my AC conversion successfully with a set of rust-free AC pipes/lines. I'm looking for the dual pipe set that passes through the firewall, plus the large diameter (high pressure?) line that attaches to one of them and goes to the dryer. This is for an 88 535i.
Can't find the part number for the dual pipes (it's #9 on this diagram) but one of them is 64531381673 and another is 64531376346.
Need shipped to 30306, or willing to meet to pickup within a reasonable distance locally. Thanks in advance!

My car was changed to r134a dont know if they will work or if they are the same im not knowledgeable in the AC scene. im pulling all my ac stuff tommorow due to adding a turbo but if they will ill gladly sell for a cheap price since i dont need them or ever use them again.4DSC wrote: Nov 14, 2024 10:11 PM Hello all,

Are you looking to add in the Fuel cooler style? If so ive got a set on my 87 535IS that id be willing to pull for ya.

So the AC Solutions kit says it's not compatible with the fuel cooler style. Interestingly I have an 88 535is but it did not come with the cooler pipes. Someone else reached out in a DM so I think I may have found a set again. If that doesn't work out, I may reach out to you. I believe I have them although I haven't checked the condition in some time. Let me know if the above doesn't work out. Non fuel cooler style off an '85. 1-85 production date of the car IIRC.

For the sake of recording some additional information on this subject, the line in your picture from the firewall to the AC dryer (NLA) is a critical piece on conversions as R134 refrigerant is finer than R12. On pre-1986 (?) e28s this line is all metal and not an issue. I had an old line with new rubber and fitting welded on - (PIA) as it took three attempts to get the angle to the dryer correct and the piece sized correctly so it fit along the frame rail properly. Fuel cooling - best plan to consider is to remove the cooling system as it does little if anything, and use the AC Solutions kit. I've installed four of these systems and they are work very well.

Interesting. The line I got from another member was all metal, I believe from a 1985 car, and mated up to the AC solutions dryer properly. Just to make sure I'm clear on what you are saying for posterity, the rubber line at the end of this pipe on later cars is not r134 compatible for some reason? Is it the diameter of the line itself? Or are you saying you had a hard time getting it physically oriented? For me they ended up in essentially the same location. The rubber line is not mentioned as an issue in the AC solutions guide so if diameter is an issue and you happen to remember the correct diameter you used, might be good to record that here. It's not a diameter issue at all. As I was told by an AC specialist, the R12 seals and the older rubber used on R12 systems over time will allow R134 to escape, so it's a good practice to replace all seals and rubber when converting from R12 to R134. As I understand it, the older rubber is more porous(?) than the newer and R134 is a finer "material". At days end it may be that a R134-converted system using old rubber may need to be topped off periodically. The issue I had when remanufacturing that rubber piece on the end of the metal line (attaching to the dryer) was that the shop here could not get the correct angle when turning in to the dryer. They used pre-angled fittings which were a PIA but we finally got it figured out. Hope that helps.

I have read that more than once, but having done zero R134a conversions, I can't make any statements on it. However, I don't recall anyone saying they had porosity problems. Good context and yes, that helps. I wonder why BMW decided to switch from the all metal design for that pipe then? I had no issues with fitment of the metal line. The dryer mounting area allows for some flexibility in getting it oriented.
