M535i and M5 at BMW Museum, Munich

Post by jhh925 »

Just got back from our family vacation in Europe, which included a swing through Munich. Bought tix to the BMW museum at "BMW Welt" ahead of time. If you're ever in Munich and haven't been to the Museum, I highly encourage you to go.

The M5 was in a separate room dedicated to M-series cars (IIRC), and I was able to get a lot closer to the M5 than the M535i, which was on a pedestal of sorts.

Anyhow, here are some highlights with links to the Flickr albums. I took a bunch more pics of the M5 so that I had reference images for things like bumper & sidelight fitment, so don't freak out when you see 8 shots of the side of the M5 taken at 6 inch vertical increments.

Interesting that that M5 has all chrome trim, including the tail lights.

That sort of threw me off. Really the spoiler and badges would be the only indication that this car was different than the 520i in Germany.

Well, those M5 pictures 100% back up Chris's statement that Euro cars came with no texture in the center of the rear valance. Take that you doubters!

Very nice!

Shadowline wasn't available on Euro M5s until 4/86 and then it was an option. My car has the bright trim, bumpers and tail lights.

It depends on the date of production, early without and later ones with texture.

Looking at this M5, with the wrong front spoiler (no oilcooler cutouts), a missing towcover and a wrong painted rear skirt i wouldn´t build my car after a car at the BMW museum

greetings from Bavaria
