Every time i go to the junkyard, its always an under qualified female cashier who has NO parts identification skills whatsoever.

Dear diary,
I went to purchase an oil level sender, upon inspection the female cashier told me it was a fuel pump and tried to charge me around 35 dollars or some crap. I asked how the pump gets driven, she said by electricity. I told her to get the manager, so she grabs ANOTHER female...wtf.
She tells me the best she can do on my supposed oil pump is 30 dollars, so i drop it on the ground and tell her no. I told her that the last time she tried to charge me for STRUT HOUSINGS when i tried to buy a set of rear shocks and said ive always been charged for shocks, for several years....and that she had the balls to ask me for receipts for those and asked her how she thinks its realistic for people to carry receipts with them and she walked off.
Seriously women do NOT belong in places like that, not being sexist, they just do NOT belong in places like a junkyard. They werent even hired because they have skills needed to fit the job, just to meet the quota of having female employees while the men are draining the gas, other fluids, and operating equipment to put the cars in the actual yard.
What happened to needing the skills required to be in a certain position, especially where your JOB is to know the parts on a car and not constantly rely on getting a male employee to tell you what the part is.
They think:
harmonic balancer is a flywheel (where is the friction surface?)
rear shock is a mcpherson type strut
oil sender is a oil pump (how is it driven?)
diagnostic connector on a wiring harness is a fuseblock
differential is a transfer case (where is the other flange?)
Is such a thing even possible?

The title of your post is correct, "hiring unqualified people". The women comment is sexist. Haven't you noticed that being stupid is rampant in both sexes? I tried to buy a crankshaft repair sleeve yesterday at my local O'reillys parts store and the guy informed me that the sleeve didn't exist. I had already found it on their website but I didn't take note of the part number. If the lady that is usually at the parts counter had been there I would have gotten my part ordered. Now I have to make another trip with part number in hand to get what I need because of a stupid man.

I don't understand you guys going to Autozone/O'Reilly's/etc for anything other than fluids, belts or hoses. They might be good for batteries or belt driven accessories but they wouldn't be my first choice there.
There are a lot of things that are dealer items. I have had pretty good results with hardware at True Value but they mostly carry only ordinary types of fasteners.

Not only is gender a factor, but age and demographics are too. In a general sense, those with the least knowledge know that, and are afraid of being taken advantage of, so they feign knowledge and are unable to accept correction. There is also a bit of psychology at work, or at least should be. It's not a glamorous or high paying job, they're more likely to give someone a break who is nice to them and gives them some respect, warranted or not.
As far as the guys being disapointed at a lack of knowledge at Kragens or whatever they're calling themselves these days,
is all I can say. I mean, WTF do you expect?

Stereotypes exist for a reason. Women are also notoriously bad at parallel parking and 3 points turns. I've seen many turn a 3-point into a 21-point turn, and give up on parking a Mini Cooper in a spot most of us could fit a 3500 dually.
That being said, it all breaks down to education. Nothing in this country really stresses that "girls" should learn how to change sparkplugs, or drive stick-shift. That is the worst kind of sexism if you ask me, males coddling women. Show your girlfriend or daughter how to change a tire or spark plugs some time. I'm sure it will be useful some day. Like, when you're not being woken up from a phone call at 3AM because she has a flat and has no idea what a lugnut even is. Just my two cents, but my girlfriend changes her own oil among other things now.
And the truth of it is that a lot of women welcome the knowledge, experience and self-sufficiency.

On a related note, I've been selling parts since 2005. I've been with three different dealers with foreign and domestic lines. I can say without the slightest exaggeration that the people I deal with as customers have been getting dumber and more belligerent every year. The number of them that dont speak or understand English and have to bring a buddy who barely speaks or understands English has been rising at an alarming rate as well. This is going to be reflected in the kinds of people you'll find on the other side of the counter. Anybody that can do better that a parts counter position isn't going to stick around for long. You're crazy if you think you're going to walk into a parts house or even a dealer and get any kind of useful advice or assistance. Bring a VIN, keep it simple and you might just get out of there with what you need.
A good counterman (person) is a valuable asset, but I'm ok if they don't claim to know what they in fact don't know. I've known some women who knew more about cars than most men, they're rare but they're out there.
As for a woman counterperson, they probably didn't hire her for her experience. The last two female counter people at autozone (the only parts place that has had women around here) consisted of a middle aged lady who knew a lot and the other was a tatt'd up bimbo with huge fake tits who liked to wear lowcut shirts who couldn't tell a taillight from an oil pan.

I will agree that stupid has no sex. Both my girls can drive a manual transmission and can tell the difference between a lug nut and a lug wrench. As for a counter person, my local BMW dealer has a young lady at the parts counter that is pretty sharp. She knows her stuff but I still bring in a realOEM printout when I buy parts (in case she isn't there).
