Chased all over town trying to find a matching tire to replace the one that my daughter tore up yesterday; she pulled a U-turn in front of the house like she always does, but this time she clipped the curb next to the neighbor's driveway, pinching the sidewall between the curb and wheel. That tire is trash. And there's not a single Kuhmo Ecsta ASX 205/60-R15 to be found locally. But...
CraigsList to the rescue. Some guy has a set of
Style 32s with tires for sale. Talked him down to $250 for the set over the phone (and may still get him to go a little lower) but he's out of town until the weekend, so to keep Emily from having to drive any distance on the donut, it was musical tires time...
The e34 that I picked up a couple months ago came with a set of nearly new Michelin snow tires on Style 2s. Those tires are the same size needed for the e36, so they will be swapped over to the wheels that came on the e36, and Emily will drive on them until we pick up the Style 32s. Thankfully I didn't get rid of the ratty old junkyard Pirellis on Style 2s, so that's what's on the e34 until it meets its final destination...
I was a little disappointed that the e36 Compact isn't designed to accomodate a full-size spare. And the arrangement for dropping the underside-mounted donut is as strange as I've ever seen.
