Just wanted to know from the guys that have the turbo setup from a 745i....what was the pros vs cons of that system....I know about the price...but I have heard about turbo lag....is there a upgrade for that turbo...any clearance issues or anything...

How was the install...White knucked and frustrated...or faily straightforward if ya have all the components needed...

Just a question

I looked on something sharpes site but I didnt really see much just about swapping the motors...

what was the pros vs cons of that system

Pros:
Cheap way to turbo
Turbo can put out good boost and power
BMW design :p
thats all I can think of... as sad as that is....

Cons:
Turbo lag is greater than more modern turbos
Only the K27 turbo made for the 745i can be used
10psi is the max boost unless you have a modified wastegate
Space is an issue
Working on the turbo is difficult due to space
Lots of stuff has to be fabricated

The install isnt hard. I used an M30 engine and swapped everything over to it. You need longer studs (110mmx8mmx1.25 i think) and a modified engine mount (or a 533i one I believe). The ABS lines are in the way of the wastegate.... but I got around it by tilting the engine enough to give clearance, it's caused absolutely no problems to date. I basically built the setup outside of the car, then spent 2 days dropping it in (with help) and hooking everything back up.

Here's a photo gallery of mine, it has a few photos of the job: http://www.partyapp.com/photo_folder.aspx?folder=165

Hope that helps! Feel free to pick my brain all you want.
