I just driving to the local wine shop to pick up a bottle for the evening, minding my own business as usual and this guy wants to be taken to school.......so I took him.

Pulling up to a congested light with about 20 cars in front of me. This red Neon with a huge air/air intercooler in the front and a whale tail that would make a sperm whale jealous pulls up behind me. The occupants are two teenage kids. The driver starts to dart his car to the right and left as if he want to pass me as we approach the light at a slow speed. This is a one lane road and there will be no fast start here. So I let the cars in front of me get some distance ahead and at about a 10 mph role I push in the clutch, rev the engine, dump the clutch and floor it in 1st. The 255 tires are instantly lit up and a nice cloud of burning rubber develops which quickly engulfs the prior mentioned Neon ricer wantabe.

At this point the Neon ricer wantabe falls way back due to the mention smoke with burning pieces of rubber mixed in (yea, I'm a dick), as I get to the light I turn left and the now much more subdued Neon ricer wantabe turns right.

Why can't people just leave me alone?

Not to side with people driving Neon's, but are you sure that wasn't an SRT4? Making 230HP stock with it's turbocharged engine, this is no slouch. I ride a 2003 Yamaha R6 and was cruising down the highway the other day at about 150km/h. A guy in an SRT4 ripped past me doing well over 200, but got caught up in traffic about a half-click ahead. I caught up to the traffic, and as he took off I decided to see what he could do. The car is no competition for my bike, so I left it in 6th and we cruised along at ~220km/h for awhile. I had to go WOT a couple times to keep him from pulling away from me, but this wouldn't have been an issue if I decided to downshift.

Anyway, low speed street driving may be a completely different issue, and that may not have been an SRT4 behind you... all I know is I gained new respect for the SRT4 that day(ok, I guess gaining something from nothing isn't very impressive, but still ;) ). Just beware, if you think you're about to smoke a Neon, watch out for that SRT4 badge - you may have to use a little extra lead in your foot :)

I don't think you'll have to worry to much about any Neon, with or without extra letters. You might need to work a little harder if someone in an Evo comes knocking though. I have driven my buddy's Evo 8. With damn near 300hp stock and AWD, it is sick fast. And lots of guys chip 'em...

Or do what my friend did and upgrade the fuel injection, hotter cams, crank the boost up to 24 psi ... that car has mucho respect from me. I only drove it about 7/10 (except for one clutch drop launch, where we left 4 nice little strips of Yokohama Advan) and it was getting scary.

But yeah, Duke ... I'd like to see a matchup between you and a stock STi or Evo. Hope you get to a strip before deployment. And once in Iraq, I hope you stay safe and get your job done.

Was it a nice big front IC or this:

I don't get it, I drive around for over a year and nobody challeneges me. You drive around for a week in the US and you have people falling left and right to see what you got. Maybe mine just looks too old and beat up  Super sleeper

Oh and I had a similar experience - I was going with this girl in Charlotte to the movies over at Regal Cinemas on a Saturday night. This place is the ultimate 'prostitot', pre-teen, and high school hang out. We were driving along the far side with speed bumps and stuff at about 5-10mph. All of a sudden these kids jump RIGHT infront of my car, causing me to slow down to a small roll (ok... it wasn't 10mph ;) ) I yell at them and these 12-13 year old punks slowly walk by my car staring straight at me. I was tempted to walk out of the car and school those kids real quick. Anyway I jump the RPM to about 5 grand and dump the clutch, made one real impressive layer of smoke behind me - and the turbo sounded WICKED - it was this constant and fast*spool* *blow* *spool* *blow* *spool* *blow* *spool* *blow* -- it was sweet.
