Refering to some of the stuff in Rundatracks post -- purely out of curiousity -- why not change flanges? Seems Iike it would be possible to mod the exhaust mani to accept a different turbo. Has anyone tried this? Has anyone tried, failed, and has a really good reason not to do it? The BMW manifold seems like an OK piece, and since they can be had pretty cheap (if you do a little fishing), it would be nice to have turbo options.

Thoughts?

My guess is that a cheap T04 and a TCD manifold (special pricing?) would be cheaper. It's not just as simple as swapping exh housings or redrilling the manifold.

Look at how much room is down below the manifold.....not too much. Adding 1/2" adapter plates + larger turbos + clearing the motor mounts is hard to do. Ther eisnt alot of space down there. You want the right turbo to fit on the manifold. I thought about the idea too until I opend the hood and looked how much room there is for "modifications". Good luck.

Well, it would certainly be easier, and probably smarter -- but cheaper? Tough call -- I bought a complete, running 745 for $200 less than the TCD exhaust manifold... :p As the old saying goes -- squeeze the penny until the bullet comes out of Lincoln's head...

The view under my hood is a little different -- since I'm looking under an e12 hood. There's more room around the engine in the e12, but the point is well taken.

I said cheaper than a custom Garrett/KKK turbo.
