Some LM-1 tuning charts and tuning stories...
Hey,
Since Andrew is late on the dyno charts I'll post some of my LM-1 tuning charts.
First is the my latest AFR chart:
I just made some changes to richen the lean bump at 2500rpm. But that graph looks pretty good. Some advice, don't over-inj your car, its a pain to tune.
Next, AFM chart:
Nice linear rise. The AFM actually maxes out at 5100rpm where it's about 4.3V. The max voltage it can give by the Apexi-SAFC is 4.4V. So it's essentially maxed out. I wounder if I should adjust it tighter still. I went another 5 clicks tighter on Thurs.
I have a little issue also, my Apexi_AVC-R boost controller is not controlling boost. It's always over-boosting to 14psi, even if I turn it off! I wonder if the solenoid has failed(in a partially open state) or the WG itself is sticking. Not sure. But this means I can't get to do full runs to 6000rpm as the detonation is severe at 14-14.5psi on 91 octane. So I'll disconnect the manifold line from the AVC-R solenoid to the WG tomorrow and re-test. If it still over-overboost, it's the WG.
have any 110 octane near you?
care to post an overview of your electronics setup for new ppl such as myself?
See my site for some background. With that, here it is:
Dinan Stg II turbo system
TCD Exhaust
My tuned 059 DME w/dongle
Apexi SAFC-II ana AVC-R
J&S Knock Sensor + Dual display
stock M30b34
enlarged throttle body +3mm
extrude honed intake manifold
Dinan custom cold air intake
E38 throttle sensor
Cartech FMU
Innovate LM-1 WBO2
While 100 octane is nice, I can't use it all the time, so I'd rather tune with the fuel I'll put in.
Have you thought about adding 20-30% toluene to your fuel to boost the octane? These days it's probably no more expensive than 91 pump gas.
Did you catch that Innovate has version 2 of their logworks software out now? Are you using the RPM converter or the LMA-3 device?
BK
Just the rpm converter. I'll have to go see about the v2 Logworks.
Thanks,
RussC
Russ - could you remind me what your site address is? I'm interested in details about the E38 throttle sensor setup.
Thanks.

My site is in my profile. The sensor is not in my write up yet. It's a integrated sensor with idle and WOT switch, plus a throttle sensor that is a potentiometer. That way the SAFC can sense any throttle position. I use it to switch the high/low throttle point. It looks just like the E28 switch but has a 6 pin round connector. I can't take credit for the idea, Duke was the first to do it.

Russ,
I've been curious about using some of the datalogging abilities of my LM-1. What did you tap for the signal for the rpm converter? Did you use the an inductive lead snaked under the hood to a plug wire or did you tap into the wiring harness somewhere for the signal?
Knowing your EE background, I'm guessing the latter. I'd like to know how you did it though.
How's the butt dyno feel now that you're out of "pig rich" territory?
Jeremy
Thanks,

Yep, tapped into the rpm signal from the DME. Also use it for the SAFC and AVC-R, now the LM-1 also. The inductive pick up is for temporary installations I believe.
Don't have the car fully tuned yet, and it does appear my AVC-R boost controller is not working properly. Disconnected it and the WG works fine. I'll have to see if I can fix it. If not, I'll need something else to replace it.
