ix - I think i have a sticky caliper, it's making noise. The rotor isn't getting worn at all either...
I should have known better when i saw that the bleeder was broken clean off. Thought i would be okay, i didn't need to bleed it...
The driver's side mirror was cracked and had one of those bubble mirrors on it. It was messing me up. Remove and replace from copper car. Also replaced fuse 4. Now i have turn signals!

Had to jump the Touring this morning, what's up with the batteries?
The e32 went into the garage on Saturday for its long-awaited rear end transplant. Got it securely up on stands, then started in on the exhaust; wanted to get at least the rear section off the car to make it easier to remove the rear end and the drive shaft, but I don't think those pieces have been apart since it left Germany in early 1988. Frozen solid. Couldn't get a wrench on any of the four bolts, so just busted the nuts up with a cold chisel. But even with the bolts gone the pipes were still solidly connected. Great. After messing with that for the entire remainder of the morning I figured there would be enough room with the exhaust still attached at the headers & sagging to the back.
Relieved the car of one trailing arm (figured getting the subframe off would be far easier with the TAs on the floor already) then went to work on the drive shaft. Not a lot of room to get at the bolts/nuts on the differential flange, but got them off, although ended up that the studs actually backed out of the flange instead of the nuts coming off of the studs. Went to get the driveshaft off this morning (took yesterday off) and discovered that the CSB was attached to the mount by about an inch of rubber; the rest of it was torn. That explains the knocking I'd get once in a while. Good thing I bought a replacement & was planning to swap it in while I was at it.
Slow going; heat is a big problem. Forecasted temps in the upper 90's all week, so it'll be early mornings and evenings in the garage. That's ok though. Running a fan is better than having to close the door and keep a propane heater running in there.

Drove the 735i again today, after finishing up the rear end refurbish/swap. New subframe & trailing arm bushings, new Moosehead Engineering shock mounts ( ), new spring pads, new diff mount, new diff seals, new CSB, new exhaust hangers, new dogbones, new sway bar links, new brake lines, most everything cleaned up & fresh paint... The bumper is a good three inches higher than it was before, and my left rear wheel no longer has the nasty negative camber it had before. Drives like marvelous.
Still need to install the new set of tie rods, the Bilstein shocks & Eibach springs on the front end, but even without those things, I like my car again!

had planned on turning the pile of m88/3 parts into at least a long block today but the master cylinder took a shit in my 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban this morning, when i pulled it i found that it had been puking fluid into the booster so a 30 minute job and one trip to the parts store turned into a 4 hour job and a extra trip after some searching to find a booster instock
The tag was underneath, I'll see if I can get a crappy cell phone pic of it.rmiddendorf wrote:Ummmmm yeah!cvillebimmer wrote:E32 sport seats? I didn't know there was such a thing. Pics please!1st 5er wrote:Speaking of E32s.
E32 Sport seats went in the Touring today.
I ain't takin' 'em out for yous* guys.
They look and fit just like E34 seats.
*Speak I picked up in York a bunch of years back.
Seems the E34's have a similar "E 32 Sport" tag also.
This is from the ones I installed.
Now if you want to see the seats themselves, come to TexFest...

It's ironic that I posted in this thread a couple days ago because I haven't spun a wrench in months aside from a aux fan swap in my e38 (not even worth posting). I've been enjoying not having a needy car to deal with and must have jinxed myself...
My trusty old 91 Ford Ranger that never fails to start, failed to start today. To make matters worse, it's out on summer loan to a friend of mine and he had it towed back to my house.
So I get to testing the battery and the basics, all looks good. Clean all the grounds and wire connections, voila! Even better, I removed the gasket between the EGR and the intake manifold and replaced it with a blocking plate (cut out of a tin can) and the stumbly rough idle I've lived with since I bought the truck in 2006 is now smooth as silk. I was hesitant to do this because I thought the bolts would be totally seized, but they backed out with no drama.
Only out $30 for this fix, which was for some 134a to round out what was a most satisfying hour and half in the garage in a long time.

Got a bit of wrenching done again today.
Got the carpet pulled from the '91 ///M5 that's got the donor drivetrain for my E12.
She'll be one happy camper come Tuesday when she's able to to and from work again.

Pulled the fuel rail and injectors, the connectors were so corroded that it would barely run at idle.1st 5er wrote:Began trying to diagnose a weird idle on the wifes' '92 ///M5.

Probably not. Doing it the Dave Ramsey way.davintosh wrote:What, no Four Corners?1st 5er wrote:... Now if you want to see the seats themselves, come to TexFest...

Luis and Chris.
Last nite my son bought a 1994 4Runner. V6 (3.slow), lifted 5 speed on 33's. Drove it home by himself (shhh, just a permit) following me from Livermore to West Marin (~1.5 hrs).
Today I brought my wagon in for a coolant system refresh. New radiator/exp tank, h2o pump, t stat, hoses, tensioners, belts.
Found out why my upper radiator mounts pop out all the time-the middle mounts (disc like things?) Are MIA, so it was just hanging off the uppers. Being lowered, it likes to bottom out and pop the radiator loose.

Cursed at it...

Tuesday- this was weird- I was driving home from lunch with a friend in my 2006 330i E90 sedan. I was waiting to turn left and had my signal on. But while waiting I looked in the reflection of the truck in front of me and instead of my left signal flashing both front lights were flashing like I had my hazards on. So I cancelled the signal and turned it back on. Same affect- the gauge cluster was indicating a left signal but it looked like the hazards were on. So I turned the car off and removed the key, and started it up again. Now the signal works normally again. I had to reboot my car.
Swapped out the swapped out AFM and he's purring again.1st 5er wrote:Cursed at it...

Last night I cobbled together a bumper strip to fill where the front license plate goes on the E30 from junkyard trim pieces. Started to remove the interior of the E12 but found myself sharpening the lawn mower blade, drinking some Heineken while listening to German opera and then sorting some old Datsun parts. Came in to take a whizz and decided my 2 week old beard needed shaving, like, NOW. Went back out to the E12 and found myself cleaning golf clubs and starting a fire to burn some yard debris. Tossed a few empties into the fire while solving all the world's problems then went back to the garage to stare at the mess someone had made.
