That's awesome. That's the first time I've seen a durability dyno test. They were obviously running the motor based on some telemetry from a given track, rather than looking for peak hp/tq numbers. Very cool indeed.

I love how they dump the fuel directly into the velocity stacks. The carbon fiber velocity stacks. :~

Good stuff!

Just in case anybody was wondering (I know I was!), the 70L/100 km it lists for fuel consumption converts to 3.36 mpg. Not exactly a sipper, but what a powerplant.

Thats the quoted FIA #. The milage is actually lower, according the Steve Matchett(ala Speed Channel). He was quoted this weekend with a more realistic 2.5mpg or so. Weren't the CART guys at the peak of there hp days(before the spec engine now) getting ~1.4-1.6mpg on that alc'y.

Makes sense - Alcohol's got less energy per volume, so you need more of it (the primary benefit of alchohol is engine cooling - fuel has a DRAMATIC cooling effect).

Interestingly, the guy who built/invented this:http://venus.13x.com/roadracingworld/is ... ularis.htm
took the job as R&D manager for Renault last year. Frankly, knowing Rob, I'm not surprised they won.

Imagine a CHASSIS simulator just like the engine simulator - you can actually run all the car's suspension based on the telemetry information from a particular track, and then tune for it the next time. ;-)

Is it me, or did they turn down the size/quality of that film? I tried to save it and couldn't, but now when I download it, the video is much worse. maybe It's cause I'm at work. Wierd.

Looks like the same quality to me, but I've also been coming up empty trying to save it. Must be protected somehow. :(
