What did you do to your other car(s) today?
Is there a Microsoft sticker anywhere on the car?rmiddendorf wrote:Tuesday- this was weird- I was driving home from lunch with a friend in my 2006 330i E90 sedan. I was waiting to turn left and had my signal on. But while waiting I looked in the reflection of the truck in front of me and instead of my left signal flashing both front lights were flashing like I had my hazards on. So I cancelled the signal and turned it back on. Same affect- the gauge cluster was indicating a left signal but it looked like the hazards were on. So I turned the car off and removed the key, and started it up again. Now the signal works normally again. I had to reboot my car.
Oil and filter and a valve cover gasket for the E36. That valve cover gasket that's supposed to go at ~100K. 154K on it and it was starting to leak. Parts of that rubber gasket were, shall we say, crispy. It was time. Looked at trying to fix the dash level air blend and it doesn't look like fun.
Ya know what's really strange about that car, and the wife's E39 too. When I look at Realoem I don't have to go to the archive section. Of course with force of habit I go there anyway and have to go back.

I can't believe how much fun the ix is. Turns that would have a RWD e30 falling over or understeering are just gobbled up. She pulls you right out. I cannot wait to take the car out duning or dirt trails and see what she'll REALLY do. I found adjustable konis at tire rack last year on sale. Same for the ix specific H&R springs... Good deals on both.jhall wrote:Been kicking the 325ix's ass lately. I rebooted the front axles over the weekend, got the outer ball joints replaced and am currently rebuilding/ painting the brake calipers. Now I just need to hunt down some shocks for it and she'll be like brand new.

Hell of a car in the snow, but it's still gotten away from me a couple of times before. Usually due to me being over confident and pushing it a little hard for conditions. It puts a big smile on my face to leave some big, "my dick is bigger than yours" truck in my wake at a stop light trying gain traction in middle of winter while my little red 80's bmw takes off just fine.ldsbeaker wrote:I can't believe how much fun the ix is. I just looked at tirerack and whatever deal they had on Koni's is loooong gone. Could look into a home equity loan I guess.
Oh. Sorry to hear that.jhall wrote: I just looked at tirerack and whatever deal they had on Koni's is loooong gone. Could look into a home equity loan I guess.
In other news, a workmate asked me to drive him out to pick up his car from the tint place, I made an impulse buy and dropped my ix off to get the same. 20% all around.
They charged me more (damn rear heat strips), but it looks great and it's a quality job. Now heather wants to get the x3 tint upgraded from 35 to 20. Damn.

I replaced all the little plastic parts inside the doors. All the grommets on the door lock linkage and rubber caps on the door latches. Epoxied the window glass to the regulators. Now I can enjoy tight working doors!
Over looked that this is other car section. Oh well.

Got a letter in the mail from Ford Motor Company today:
Ford is replacing the torque converters on some quarter-million Freestars to alleviate a potential problem that could result "in a sudden loss of motive power with no warning, increasing the risk of a crash." Time to call the dealer & schedule an appointment.Safety Recall Notice 11S25 / NHSTA Recall 12V-006
Service parts are now available to perform the necessary repairs to your vehicle
Wow, that's a few bucks. Ya know... I remember when if a car had a flaw, it had a flaw. You rolled the dice and either sold it or crossed your fingers. 2004/5 cars? Ford considers them only slightly more current than Model A's. Granted many of us, myself emphatically included think of them as new, but not Ford. They must have been leaned on hard to sign on to this one.davintosh wrote:Got a letter in the mail from Ford Motor Company today:Ford is replacing the torque converters on some quarter-million Freestars to alleviate a potential problem that could result "in a sudden loss of motive power with no warning, increasing the risk of a crash." Yup; that one is gonna hurt, given the extent of the repair and the number of vehicles involved. Big $$$$. I thought it's a bit odd that they are repairing all of them when the only thing that happens when the TC goes south is you lose motive power; in most cases the driver should be able to coast to a stop without incident, but thinking the least common denominator, somebody would surely freak out and cause a major pileup.
Makes me think of when I was in high school; the cruise control on my mom's '76 Chevy Impala whacked out and started accelerating the car after she stepped on the brake. She freaked out & just stood on the brakes, and eventually hauled it to a stop but not before annihilating the brakes. Dad just shook his head & asked her why she didn't just shut the ignition off; she thought she would lose all brakes & steering.

I think the fear is it will happen when somebody is making a left in front of a truck or trying to beat a train on tracks. And it would be most likely to fail when you nail it and really need it.davintosh wrote:Yup; that one is gonna hurt, given the extent of the repair and the number of vehicles involved. Big $$$$.
