Before anyone gets their panties in a wad, yes, I do have a need for a truck this big.
Now for the goods. This thing is fricken BADASS! 325 hp and 570 ft-lb of torque!! It will definitely get out of it's own way. When the turbo hits, you better be steering straight, with nothing in front of you.
Another neat thing is the engine braking. Diesels naturally provide no engine braking. That's why semis have "Jake brakes" that make all that racket when they are trying to slow down. Well, this thing has a variable-vane turbo and a butterfly valve that seamlessly provides engine braking when needed, or all the time if it is in tow/haul mode. Going down hill, you can downshift, and the engine goes totally quiet, and maintains vehicle speed. At the bottom, it comes back to life and operates normally. Really cool.
It's got a 5 sp auto tranny that really works well. If you drop the hammer from a dead stop, it will spool up and stay there until you get to the speed you want. The highest reading I have seen so far is 28 psi!!
Fuel mileage is not so great. 12.5-13 in town and 17-18 on the highway at 72 mph. It is expected to get better as it breaks in. Some guys report a 2-3 mpg increase as they pass 20k miles. I "only" have 3k on it now (Owned it for just about a month now) But what do you expect from a 7500 lb machine with an engine that produces 570 ft-lb of torque?! (@)
