Finished packing the heart-throbs possessions into the 28 footer, bound for Austin, Tx. kissed her arrive derci, checked the four corners for air pressure & pulled the dipstick on the e23 euro, dropped the clutch for the 300 mile round trip from the southwest Oregon coast up to Salem to deliver the progeny to his "monitoring agent" for a new "ankle bracelet" battery. Stopped to fuel, checked the spare for pressure and noticed I'd neglected to restock the tool tray. Once rolling up the 101 I immediately started hearing, feeling, smelling everything that could go haywire in the next few hours. Blew the carbon out of it with substantial near red-line shift points and didn't give a damn if I walked home or not. Life moves on.

Started work @ 7am (pst). Responded to some emails, pulled some reports and read a few articles on TED.com. Its is now 10:14am. I want to clean my car but I probably wont cause it's hot outside and when it's hot outside laziness takes over!
Just NOW!!! found out my friends are pregnant! Congrats to them, whoohoo! My fiance is off today... Lucky her! But she works this weekend.. LOSER! I have weekends off! Look who's laughing now.

What the bloody hell? This was the one act that I actually wanted to see last night. I enjoyed some of the other acts, didn't know a bunch of them, and couldn't care less about some others. But the one act I had hoped to see was cut from the US broadcast?

So basically, Kate was like, "Fuck the U.S." and then the U.S. was like, "Who?" As usual.

Got to see joe biden's motorcade today on I-40 as he was passing through Durham. First I saw a lead helicopter and then I noticed all of the on ramps closed by State Troopers. I was going east as they were going west so I was interested considering traffic was light. Leading were 15 motorcycle cops, then a dark Chevy Suburban followed by 2 silver Suburbans that were heavily armored. (super small windows and reealllly obvious). About 2-3 more unmarked cars and then 4-5 marked Troopers followed by an ambulance. I've seen motorcades before but have never seen an ambulance. Nice touch Joe. . .

Well, I have 3 different shift patterns for it, but the one pictured is for a six speed with reverse towards you and up. I got fed up with the shitty options out there for people who wanted to play racing simulators with an H-pattern shifter. There's the G25 and the higher end model (G27, I think?), then there's one from fanantec, but they all are sort of crappy and really expensive. This shifter should come in under $100 for materials and will feel 1000x more solid. I could drive the price down even more if I sacrificed some of the bearings, but I'll see how it feels first.

Oh ok, so the notch under reverse (down and towards you being a LHDriver) is really not going to be there? Or will just be a neutral spot?

Just a neutral spot. Yes, I'm a LH driver. I figured I'd leave the notch in place so that if I wanted a 6 speed with reverse in the far right and down position I wouldn't have to change out the gates (the top part with the pattern cut into it). The bottom end of the shifter doesn't care what gate plate is in place, so it's just four screws to change it around

I do still have to add the electronics. I haven't yet decided if I want to go with photo gates or just whisker limit switches. Either way they'll likely be mounted on the under side of the gate plate and have an easy electrical connector. The connector will lead to a BCD encoder and eventually to the simulator motherboard. I had started to design this sucker here, but I see that it's going to need to be a bit more polished if I want consistent results. I'll be getting a circuit board made when I get the time to route it.

Today after dinner, while the kid was waiting out his 15 minutes till he could get down without eating, i looked out the window.
The tree was swaying in the wind. I watched it for the entire 15 minutes. The kid started watching, but only for 5. He asked me why I was watching the tree.
I didn't have an answer he would understand, so i replied:
"I don't know."

I had my hands full as I left for work yesterday & ended up backing out the front door, pushing the storm door open with my butt and pulling the interior door shut with my free hand. I heard & felt a "crunch" with my first step off the threshold; looked down and there was a female sparrow, legs still twitching. Poor thing must've tried flying through the window on the door & ended up lying stunned on the stoop.

I wonder if the course of the future was in some way changed because that sparrow is no more...

My wife destroys pork chops. . .I'm not a big fan of pork products to begin with but I know how things are to be prepared.

Have no trouble eating pork. Given the chance, pigs will eat humans So turnabout is fair play .

Annnyway, I have created a new bread recipe. Instead of using buttermilk and an egg to my 2 cups whole wheat and 2 1/2 cups white flour, I used a can of Yuengling and 1/4 cup of olive oil. It didnt rise as much as the buttermilk, But the taste, texture, and golden brown crust makes for an incredible PBJ.
So many bread recipes, so little time.

So did my Mom. For years I thought I didn't like either pork or lamb, chops of either came out identical, hard, dried out and greasy. With no flavor. I must have been in my mid 30s at least before I found out about such things as leg of lamb or pork tenderloin. Both of which I love.

When he isn't off marrying couples as a minister of the something or other life church , my other son is a damn good amateur chef. Marina loves lamb and is a damn fine cook when the spirit moves her. Me, not so much, so I will have some sardines . Pork I love, So between the 2, I do pretty good. Left to my own devices I can feed myself quite well . As an ex- dishwasher, I favor using as few dishes as I can to minimize the clean up.

I think that's gender, not ex-dishwasher. My goal with what little cooking I do, (and the world is a better place the less I do) is to dirty the fewest amount of dishes I possibly can. I think the one thing a BIL of mine and I have in common is that philosophy. I don't much care for him for a variety of reasons, but on that we agree.

I came to the realization in my early 20s, though...

...and my wife is a hell of a cook. I have a toolbox chock full of tools and horsepower in the garage, she has "kitchen horsepower" to her heart's delight. It's a great trade-off.

Up here we have striped bass . it is an ocean fish and darn fine eating. Fresh water bass is mostly caught for sport and released, because they taste like mud. I 've cultivated a taste for trout and pickerel. I was raised on cod and flounder. Once upon a time they were cheaper than chicken.
