Ian, are the insides the same? Just crack em open and take some pics or tell me its the same b/w the years.

I'll get pictures tomorrow. I haven't had them apart at the same time, but I think they were the same.

My '84 was the second to last month of production, and it still doesn't have the fabled one-chip socketed 533 ecu.

Your right, I know all that stuff, and am very familar with Frikes site. We were just debating whether the 008 box is really a Motronic or L-jet.

Anyway, Tuoma also did tuning on the M106 box, which is mostly the same as the 008 box in the E28, so tuners have done it, but only a couple, and very limited applications.

Again, the key is you need "other stuff" to get the 008 box to run larger injs and do tuning, as you stated very well.
