Fresh Built Motor
alright boys, here's the deal. i take the 535 into my shop back home for some pretty routine stuff, new tranny, fix some wiring, couple of other things. well they put the car up on the lift and my entire undercarriage is soaked in oil! well atleast i wont have any rusting problems with the chassis! so they pull the motor and just about every seal is blown. guess that happens after 233,000 miles and about 10k on boost. everything else inside the motor was in remarkably good condition. i have had significant detonation in the past and when they pulled the pistons, they were spotless, but the rings were well worn. so the decision was made....................BUILD THE MOTOR AND THROW SOME BIG BOOST IT'S WAY! got a few more weeks waiting on parts and then everything will be assembled and i will take it to the tuner and eeek every last bit of hp out of her that we can. here is a list of the new parts going into the block:
mls gasket with stock compression thickness
arp head studs
fresh rod bolts
forged je pistons with upgraded wrist pins and rings w/ 8.0:1 compression
slight boring of the block to make sure the cylinders are true and the new pistons will fit
20+ psi boost!
looking for high 400's rwhp, don't think this turbo can break 500 rwhp but we shall see! i should have some pictures to post on monday and hopefully the project will be finished with in the next month. let me know what you guys think.

sweet plan. i just took my car out today to get fresh premium gas in the motor and do some more tuning. my 7-8psi is plenty nice for me right now. Im sure i can take a lot of the things on the road as I stand wit ha new motor. I cant imagine how 20psi would feel. keep up the good news of the rebuild, and as always, PICTURES are your friend.
I'm playing with the idea of doing the same thing. What, no VW pistons or b35 head to get that compression? Tell us how it goes.
i got a b35 motor, just need a gasket and pistons to lower compression safely.
duke, i have the bin file now but this one isn't a great tune i dont think. when the motor is done and i break it in for a few days, i am taking it back to my tuner and we are going to spend a whole day tuning it. i will send you that bin file. i feel this one is a little to aggressive for the street or for pump gas. the next one, we will back off the timing a bit and be a touch more conservative on the street tune so i can run it hard all day long with 93 octane.
If J.E. doesn't have the pistons on the shelf, I doubt you get them in 3 weeks. J.E. screwed around for months making the pistons for my M88/3. The first set of pistons weren't produced to my engine builders specifications. He sent them back, the second set was done correctly.

We have been working on the order since last year. 8 sets are on order and in line for production. I have only received great customer service from them so far.
