Im getting a rebuild kit from TCD for the M30.... MLS, arp, J.E.... Im getting a 745i manifold, turbo, and wastegate. 30 lb ford injectors... Do I need to get a higher flowing external or internal fuel pump(s)? Or will the Motronic on the E28 make up for it.... Thanks

No....not with 30 lb injectors. I have 78 lb injectors and will need a higher flowing pump.

All boosted cars should upgrade the fuel pump. It is only rated at 140lph and designed for low pressure. We use a Carter/Walbro 255lph high pressure in tank pump ($125).

My experience is that it your staying ~275whp, your fine with stock. If your going higher, youll need a larger/better pump to be on the safe side.

Thanks guys. Hey Todd, I guess you can count on me ordering that fuel pump you were talking about when I order the rebuild kit in a couple days. But I do have a concern. I am not boosting the E28.. The engine is going in my e30 so... will that Carter/Walboro 255lph high pressure in tank fuel pump fit in my e30 gas tank? Do I use the e30 external fuel pump or the e28 one? Thanks

may have just been your pump, most M30 that make ~250-275whp can use the stock pump. If there old, they may die just from that, their old.

it was only about 3 years old but that combind with boost could cause an early demise to a stock fuel pump i guess.

Im running the stock 8psi on my stock fuel pump and it hasent seemed to have any problems with it cutting out or not supploying the proper fuel. This isnt to say its not running on FULL all the time and could be gone by the end of the year....turbos cost soooo mcuh ~0

The killer for the Bosch pump seems to be fuel pressure. If you run larger injectors and don't have to use the rising rate much to get good AFRs, it'll definitely last longer than someone running a higher rate of rise because they're running smaller injectors.

I agree, I've always found that having a larger injector means you don't need as much rise...

Thank you, thank you, I'm here all week! Please tip your waiter generously, he owes me money!

Todd - I have an early euro e28 tank with only a level sensor in it. Therefore the hole in the top of the tank is smaller than the US tanks (and later euro tanks). What is the OD of the pump?? I'm not sure if I could fit it in there. I may just go with a Bosch CIS pump instead.
