Titanium Rods

I lie awake at night thinking about a set of forged pistons with these chunks of joy hanging beneath them, so light yet burly. Then I fall asleep and have nightmares about spending $7K on them, getting divorced and living in a box under the interstate overpass with just me, my dog, and my rods and pistons.

288 GTO

Now we are getting into an entirely different area of lust and desire. That has long been on my short list of ultimate dream cars. Pretty much since I first laid eyes on one. Out of the "modern" era Ferrari's, that is the one, I would take one in a second over anything else. Enzo, F50, nothing compares to that in my book. Some things just look right, instant classics, that is one of the best for me.

the 288 gto has been atop my list for a few years now, unfortunately the price tag of over $400,000 puts it slightly out of range! that is my first dream car, followed by an enzo, twin turbo diablo roadster in black or yellow with black interior, and a built supra of course!

Yup,
The F40 and Enzo are over the top race/street. The 288 GTO still looks like a street car..and a dam sweet one at that.

Exact dimensional copies would not be the way to go -- you'd need to calculate where to add/subtract material. You might also have to heat-treat the titanium. The cost of the experiment would probably add up to more than the cost of simply buying them. BTW, you'd need to use a milling machine, not a lathe.

Wow! Milling Ti "Too Easy"!!!

Man, the stuff I learn here! I've NEVER heard a machinist use the words "titanium" and "easy" in the same sentence!!

Something happened and I definitely wasn't around to hear about this new, easily-machinable titanium. When was this released to the market? ;) I'm thinking about re-doing my whole chassis!

Actually, some grades of titanium are easily machined. I made titanium wedding rings for my friends a year and a half ago. Lots of different flavors of the stuff...
