I just snapped a few shots of my e28,it is a 1985 528e. I picked it up last year for $100. had a body/paint job done and swapped out the manual tan leatherette seats with a power black leather set. Also the head was cracked so an M30 was swapped in from my parts car. I have driven the car only a few months and i love it. It is bone stock except for Bilstein sport shocks and 17'' Rondell style 58's.
the pics are awful quality but it was the best i could do. My trunk set up is a JL 12W6v2 run by a JL 500/1 on the left side of the trunk and a JL 300/4 (right side) running my 4 MBQ Premium 6.5''s. The 6.5's do not fit easy, we had to chop the hood release, which is now activated by a wire and a few inches were taken off of the glove box for clearance.

The speakers do sound great, I do listen to the occasional rap and feel that they cannot handle the bass as well at a higher volume as I would like. But with Rock they sound supurb.
We had cut out a template of the side wall where the speaker would be out of a thin piece of wood, we placed the speaker as close as we could but only 5 of the 6 holes for mounting were used. We made rings out of plastic to give the speakers its depth and mounted that to the wood. The speaker does actually stick out a little, but you just have to be a little careful getting in and out, but so far no problems.

You get plenty of bass. My M5 had a huge box in the trunk with an 8 or 10 in it.. powered by an Alpine V12 amp. Someone else did the install before i got the car; there are a lot of nice touches.
I took the box out because i want the trunk space, and i cant have something sliding around the trunk. I've been meaning to put a sub under the rear seat but still haven't. I also want to just remove the stereo entirely and install a carPC with a single-DIN LCD panel that folds out.
that system looks very top notch with all brand names. But i always wondered how much bass u actually get in the cabin and how hard it was to run the wires for everything. I have always wanted a JL but was worried it would just make my trunk rattle and i wouldnt get any bass.
I was also worried about the same thing, I had heard a MTX 12'' in a trunk and it did not sound good at all. But I was re-assured that this was JL and they make potent subs. I get more than enough bass into the cabin, but I also cut a hole behind the rear seats ( in the area of the armrest) to let a bit more air flow through into the cabin. I have seen 2 e28's with a circular hole cut in the rear deck lid for the same reason.
The trunk was a major issue when first hooked up, the bass hit so hard on the floor of the trunk, it would hit off the gas tank and make all sorts of farting noises. We loosened to 3 or 4 bolts and put in a few washers to give it a little clearance and the problem was solved.
Also my amp on the left side of the trunk blocks off where my jack/tire iron were(now under rear seats) and with that empty space behind the amp i do notice that there is some rattling in that area. I am going to look into dynamatting the trunk, Its a little pricy but from what I have heard it is well worth the money.
The wiring was not very hard to run, because at the time there was no interior in the car at all so running them was a piece of cake. There were well drawn diagrams on both the JL and MBQ books that came with the stereo that made things very easy to follow.
